Totally inspired by this story we led our kids from Africa to Ecuador to find the great Kapok trees. We selected a guide Luis Garcia who takes people off the beaten track into the Amazon and I found out he infact took the author of this book Lynne Cherry into the Selba ( Jungle) so many years ago and she told him of the story she intended to write. Crazy how life works. We sent him this book to share with the Ecuadorian kids living on the Napo river with the Capoquero ( Kapok) trees so that those who are the true guardians can be inspired to protect the trees. We loved the illustrations and animal and insect references- they are so accurate. Our kids so loved seeing the drawings come to life for real.
