Ignore the claims about "bad packaging" this is a great set
Further into the review, I will provide technical information on this disc including audio, subtitles, etc. I will say that this looks and sounds incredible compared to the streamed versions. It truly is a fidelity upgrade. The first episode plays like a movie. If you are debating between this and the DVD set, 100% get this one. Its an objective upgrade. The Atlantis/SG1 blurays can have some weird artifacts due to the cheap upscaling they did (mostly SG1) but this is truly just better than the DVD set.The packaging that this features is actually GOOD and prevents a lot of issues. Is it a good permanent solution? No, probably not... but it is WAY better than the half botched packaging of basically every other tv show. Having each disc in an individual sleeve like this is actually way better. The problem with the other disc platters that shows usually come in, is that the discs fall out, get scraped, etc. This is especially a problem during handling/shipment. These sleeves actually ensure your product is better when it arrives to you. As someone who loves physical media, it clearly shows me that the people at VEI knew what they were doing and knew exactly what people wanted. As for content (not a review of the show); All of the episodes are included PLUS the extended version of episode 1. The first episode "Air" was the pilot and was split into three parts for broadcast. This provides the full extended version which even includes some additional content. However, it ALSO includes part 1, 2, and 3. Its nice because you can choose either, depending on what you prefer. This set contains the following audio:- English - AC3 - 5.1 448kbps = this is the highest quality audio track I have located on the discs- English - AC3 - 2.0 (stereo) 192kbps = this is usually added for compatibility reasons- English - AC3 - 2.0 (Director/cast commentary) (stereo) 192kbpsNote: For some reason, the show seems to default to the stereo audio instead of the 5.1 track. You can fix this yourself within your player if it is capable or via encoding if you are using it on your personal media. Most episodes I have ran into have director/cast commentary tracks, but not all of them do. Its a lot more than most shows. For the episode "Air" you will have to go to the extended version of the episode to get the commentary track, it is not present on part 1, 2, and 3.This set contains the following subtitles:- English - PGSThe chapters are pretty well marked, being generally accurate. However, the intro/recaps are not marked super consistentlyThere are a TON of extras. Bonus content, behind the scenes, cast interviews, director interviews, and all of the Kino webisodes/clips. However, these appear to be locked in on digital/camcorder type quality. They dont look great and will not be a fidelity increase. The Kino videos aged a bit better, but the other bonus content did not.

So far so good
I'm so glad I found this on Blu-ray AND as a complete collection. As many may have noticed SGU has been removed from streaming services, you can stream it on Pluto but you have many commercials to deal with because it's a free service. Because of the lack of streaming options and it's age, SGU disc's have gotten a bit harder to find (especially on Blu-ray and as a whole collection). The package is sturdy and seems well made. It doesn't have the attached plastic inserts that hold the disc's like many DVD cases have but rather slip in envelopes. Some people don't seem to like this but I don't mind them as it is easier to get the disc's in and out without bending and possibly scratching them. Also with the original plastic inserts that held disc's the centers would break after excessive use and would stop holding the disc's correctly leaving them to slide around and get scratched. I think these envelopes are better. We have watched the entire first season already and the disc's have played without any issue. The quality is much better visually with the Blu-ray. The sound is low during some of it so you have to adjust the volume here and there but that has nothing to do with the disc's quality and more to do with the actual production and the time the show was made.Overall, this is a great set and I am so glad it was available. The quality is great, everything works, and it came packaged well. It actually arrived faster than it said it would. My only gripe is that there are only 2 seasons to this show and it was one of the best SG in my opinion. I wish it had gone on a bit longer. If you are looking to add SGU to your physical collection, I definitely recommend this set.

Very good series, but a change of pace from other Stargate shows.
This is a very good television series, but it is a more serious Stargate program than most. Expect less humor and more drama from this series about survival under difficult conditions.A group composed of half military personnel and half civilian scientists finds themselves unexpectedly marooned on a huge alien spacecraft as large as a small city, and one which is also on its' way to soon venture straight out of our galaxy. This massive ship has been deserted since a time before mankind's ancestors lived in caves.Although built to last for ages, this great ancient spaceship is in a state of disrepair from having travelled with no crew to maintain it while operating on auto-pilot for over half a million years. The new arrivals must explore this virtual city in space hoping to find the control room and, once they do find it, they will have to figure out how to actually turn this huge ship around in order return home. If they do not succeed with this task, they might have to spend the entire rest of their lives on board this vast ancient alien spacecraft.Along the way these castaways in space must figure out how to procure food and water while on board, to repair and maintain the ship's all essential life support system (which hasn't been needed for half a million years), and to learn the various other skills required in order for them to survive on board this vessel built so very long ago by non-human hands. And, the military people and the scientists both have very different opinions as to how that should be accomplished--which leads to many difficult and dramatic confrontations between these two groups along the way. There are an endless number of other difficult challenges to face, many life threatening, along the way too--this very old craft is equipped with a stargate, but so close to the galaxy's edge planets with stargates of their own within range are few and far between, only coming into their ship's stargate's range for a matter of days before drifting back out of it again--leaving a ticking clock for explorers who will be marooned on any world they visit if they can't return to the ship in the limited time available. There are alien life forms and biospheres to explore for much needed supplies, and some prove to be extremely hazardous, but I'd rather not give away any spoilers by writing about them in this review.Although very, very different in overall attitude and tone from the other "funnier" and "lighter" Stargate series, Stargate Universe was honestly quite an entertaining and extremely well done television show, and the cast of very good actors truly give it their all. I really enjoyed it a great deal more than I'd ever expected to, and I do wish there had been more than only the two seasons of it ever made. But, I'm happy these two seasons do exist. This Blu-ray set includes both full seasons of the series along with both the original and an extended version of the first episode. The picture quality of the Blu-rays in this two season set is uniformly excellent. This series and this blu-ray set both come very highly recommended.

Too bad it ended
What can I say. I watched all the Stargate series and own copies of all of them. I enjoyed them all but liked Stargate Atlantic and Stargate Universe the best. Don't get me wrong, I like the Stargate movie and series as well. As to Universe, some good character development. Interesting episodes. With stargates at your disposal the storyline is wide open. I watched the entire series from start to finish. This copy is excellent. Everything looked and sounded great. Sorry to see it end. It would be a good one for a reboot.

What kind of ending was THAT??
Ok. So I watched this with my husband, and what the heck? I HATE cliffhangers, especially in shows or movies that have so much potential for continuing. I get that this is an older show, but come on. They're redoing all the Disney movies, they're rebooting Power Rangers, why can't they finish this series out? (Sigh) Loved the show, hated the ending.

It's good series
It's only 2 seasons long. To bad to. But it was the last spinoff from Stargate movie. Should watch movie then SG-1, then if you like to watch SG-1:Atlantis either at same time or after SG-1. Then watch the Ark of Truth, then Continuum the SG-Universe.

Good addition to the Stargate franchise

Brilliant - worth the upgrade if you're a fan of the show!
Was so excited to find this, as previously only season 1 was ever released on Blu-ray.VEI have done an excellent job cleaning up these transfers as they look amazing! Amazingly clear, sharp and vibrant and devoid of any grain or artifacts - it looks absolutely stunning on my 75" 8K tvSuch a shame it was cancelled after 2 seasons - this is the 3rd time round I've watched this show and I like it more each time.If you're a fan of the show I highly recommend this - but make sure it's the VEI version, the MGM boxes are, in my opinion, inferior.

Good series but the play all function doesn't work.
Good series but the play all function doesn't work which is annoying.

Love SGU!
This is a show that ended way too soon. I loved the high stakes and different llanets they visited. I loved that their actions had consequences. I lived that the ship they were on had mysteries to be solved. I lived that the unlikely people rose to the top.The packaging of this box set is awesome too!!! Inside there is a booklet/DVD sleeve so the disks come out easily while remaining protected while not in use. It's also a solid case not one of those useless cut out eco cases that may as well not even be thereI'm very very happy with this purchase.
