Ahead of its time
Great book. Banned in Ireland at the time - topics relevant to today that were absolute taboo in 1950s. This author an absolute trailblazer. In awe of her. Her sympathetic treatment to so many trials and tribulations of her characters yet still written in a witty and stylish way. A must read for anyone with an interest in how badly women were treated back in the day- and how far we still have to come.

Hauntingly beautiful
Captivating read. Make no mistake, this is not an easy read it is at times of very heavy read. But well worth every minute within its pages

Save your money.
This book is okay until the beginning of the third part.It starts off seeming real and true but gradually becomes less and less believable. For me, the book ended up to be a disappointment. Sorry.

A trilogy that gets bette with each volume.
Most people seem to prefer the first two volumes of the trilogy, from Kate's perspective. The third volume is from Baba's. Rather than detracting from the trilogy, for me this makes it. We know about Baba from Kate's experience. Getting Baba's perceptions and inner life helps us to understand the person that seems so mean in the first volume you would wonder why Kate was friends with her at all. This helps explain - she's sharp, direct and very very funny. When I picked this up I doubted I would make it through the first part. Now I'm left wanting the author two write a fourth.
