Excellent historical account of a tragedy.
Sinclair Browning is a high school classmate of mine. She was Zerelda Sinclair at Palo Verde High School back in the early 1960s. Her nick name was Zeke. I used to race Pontiac GTOs up and down East Speedway Boulevard in Tucson with her brother George.I'm not sure why I didn't read Enju until July 2013, but I am glad I finally did. It is a superbly written book, one that anyone interested in the history of Southern Arizona, Tucson, Apaches, John Clum, racism and the lack of justice for the men who assassinated so many Aravaipa Apache women, children and men in a surprise attack.Coincidentally, when I was snow birding in Tucson back in Feb, Mar & Apr 2013, I saw an old black & white photograph of the men who were finally put on trial for those murders. They were staninding out in front of the rough adobe brick courthouse in Tucson. "Not Guilty" said the jury within 10 minutes of starting deliberations.Zeke describes a lot more about what happened and how badly Aravaipa Apache Chief "Skimmy" was treated in her wonderful book.I highly recommend reading Enju.
