I bought these when my old pair of glasses sprang a little bit on one side, meaning that they kept sliding off. While I was waiting for new glasses (these old ones aren't really repairable), I needed something to keep these in place. This retainer is lightweight and doesn't flap against the neck; in fact, I don't really notice when it's on. The slide mechanism makes it easy to fix in place and to remove. This great little retainer takes up almost no room in storage and has a lot of other potential uses besides my rather oddball one. It's a keeper.

COMPARED WITH OTHER TYPES OF EYEGLASS RETAINERS> With "long cord push on" retainers (like these Chums), you can quickly and easily (with one hand) lower your glasses to below your chin (to about the bottom of your neck, with the glasses hanging from your ears) to take a photo with a camera or cell phone, etc. It looks a little goofy, with your glasses hanging from your ears, but it's just for a few seconds. It is just as quick to slip your glasses back in place on your face. If you want to lower your glasses to your chest, say while you are reading a magazine, that's a two step process which takes both hands. It is also a multi-step process to put your glasses from your chest back in place on your face.> "Short cord push on" retainers (NOT these Chums) are for minimizing the risk of loosing your glasses during strenuous activities (such as playing tennis). You can't hang "short cord push on" retainers from your ears (for a quick photo, etc.), nor can you hang them from your neck (to read a menu, etc).> With "granny" retainers (which attach by a loop to the mid-stems of your eyeglasses), you can drop your glasses directly to your mid-chest, hanging from your neck. It may take a few seconds longer (than with "push on" retainers) to put them back on your face. If the stems of your eyeglasses are oily with skin oil, "push-ons", may not hold well. These Chum "long cord push-ons", only push-on about 1/2". Some "short-cord" push-ons push-on 1" or more and get a more secure grip. "Granny" retainers can easily slip off the ends of plastic or all metal eyeglasses when the glasses are hanging. Still the best ones but I have to rebuy them a few times a year. The rubber grips will loosen every few months.
