8-Inch Drill Press

For me, this is a very good price the build quality is very good and it is a versatile tool because unlike other gel presses in this price range, you can adjust the angle of the drilling. More than 2 inches of drilling would be nice, but you pay for what you get. It’s very nice and heavy cast-iron. And the performance is very good. The five speed function is also nice allowing you to drill through metals I have drilled through steel and as long as you use oil and a decent bit can get through pretty thick material

Perfect for youth group wood shop. Runs nice and quiet, easy to assemble, seems accurate, a nice budget friendly entry-level drill press with a stop to control depth.

I've owned WEN products before, specifically a 10" benchtop model that I sold when moving from Minnesota to Florida. The 10" was utilitarian: it did what it was supposed to do. However it was a bit noisy, and the quality control was a bit off: the holes where the body attached to the base were just a bit out of line and the laser indicator was off by maybe 1/8 inch. Nothing that impacted performance, and that drill press gave me several years of good service at a very reasonable price. I had need of a drill setup something beyond just a hand drill, but compact due to limited space. Checking Amazon it was apparent that a lot of the small and mini-presses were getting mixed reviews at best: battery-powered, not enough oomph for the heavier jobs, etc. The WEN 4208T was not a lot more money than the mini-presses, but had a lot of attributes (much heavier, much more powerful--a solid tool rather than a toy) so I had no reservations about ordering it, figuring that with Amazon's return policy I was risking very little. THE GOOD The press arrived promptly and assembly was a snap. Instructions are provided but are really not needed; however the instructions are specific about wiping off the lubricant that was on the shaft going into the chuck and on the column where the work table attaches before completing assembly. I would make it a point to do that: you don't want things slipping or dropping off during use. The unit is solid. It weighs in at 33 lbs. and with five possible speeds (you move the drive belt from pulley to pulley in order to change the speeds) you're not going to overwork it. I haven't tried drilling metal with it yet but I've drilled 3/4" oak and the unit breezed through it. Once seated, the chuck runs true and there was no discernable wobble with a bit in the chuck, and the press apparatus operates smoothly. The press handles (3) seem a bit small considering the overall mass of the unit, but that will assure you don't overstress things by putting too much pressure on the work. It is QUIET. My other press made quite a racket when running, but this one just hums. It feels--and sounds--like a quality unit. THE NOT SO GOOD During assembly I noted that the entire machinery end of things--press and motor--are attached to the top of the column and held in place with two set screws. Picking the unit up by the motor and transporting it that way could conceivably cause the head to slip off the column and causing the base, column and work table to fall off. I made sure the set screws were tight and also checked them (along with other screws) after operation. Better safe than sorry. The work table, though solid, attaches to the column by a band of metal maybe 4" in width, that just slides up and down the column. You have to loosen it, then slide it up or down to the position that you want, and retighten. My previous press had a geared table with a hand crank that moved the table up or down with much more precision. This one doesn't. You can tilt the table for angled holes, and there is a scale on the back of the table that shows the degree of tilt. However this is again by hand, by guess and by gosh. The scale is quite small: it will give you an idea of the angle but would not be repeatable with any degree of certainty. There is no work light or laser pointer on the unit. THE BOTTOM LINE It is important to remember that this is NOT a precision unit, nor was it designed to be one. Accuracy is not repeatable with any degree of certainty considering how the adjustments are made for table height, angle, etc. But it is solid, apparently dependable, and more than powerful enough for most jobs I'd be asking it to do. Plus, at $99 (which is what I paid) you're shelling out about the same amount of money, maybe even less, than you would for a serviceable hand drill. I'd recommend it. As long as your expectations are realistic.

I like doorstops, doorstops like me and I like making doorstops. This little beast is a nice piece of kit for making said doorstops. The doorstops are made from 7075 and 6061 aluminum. I use a 5D doorstop hole maker and its done great with this WEN 8" drill press. Yes, I know, it's Chinese and everything, but the boots working at the WEN doorstop ++ maker factory must be very happy and cared for. It isn't a $1,000 drill press obviously, but it does the job, just like your cousin Eddie. It's a little rough around the edges, but it doesn't affect the operation. It's for light duty only AND it's highly portable. It's incredibly easy to put together and it was shipped securely, absolutely no issues. IF you're fabricating heavy duty tank armor, this isn't your drill press, but if you're drilling holes into doorstops; firmly placing you on the enemies of the state list, this is your drill press. You'll have to adapt and improvise a little bit cuz it's only 8", but it'll poke a hole perfectly. You may have heard that before but in this case it's true. I teamed this press up with a WEN WA0392 120V 15-Amp Momentary Power Foot Pedal Switch for safety and it also works great. Another nice piece of kit from WEN. I also use it with a bench grinder (not a WEN) and of course a DeWalt DWP611 router, essential for making doorstops. I just plug whatever corded tool (15amps or less) I'm using into the back of the pedal plug, plug that into my power source, stick it on the floor and use my foot to control the off/on function of the tool....hands free so to speak, much safer. So there you go, knock yourself out. It's well worth the $100 or so bucks for the drill and what, $14 bucks for the pedal? Well worth it. Highly recommend.

Not good quality, motor is smoking

Busqué y vi muchas reseñas de productos similares y todos luce muy parecidos, incluso hay muchos de un precio muy bajo. Compré uno especialmente barato, pero por fortuna vi una reseña que muestra como la mesa móvil se deforma porque es de lámina. Cancelé la compra. Quedé gratamente sorprendido cuando recibí el taladro de 8" de Wen, bien construido, sólido, con una agradable presencia y suficiente para mi taller casero y las necesidades que tengo. Lo recomiendo ampliamente.

Arrived quickly, easy to set up. I think I saw one review where the chuck wouldn't stay on - mine stays on fine. You just have to make sure you remove all the oil before sliding it on, then put a piece of wood on the chuck (moving the jaws up into the chuck first, of course) and give it a couple light taps with a hammer. The smallest bit I've used with it so far is a number 51 - looks like it would go all the way down to a number 80, but I personally haven't tried it yet. The largest is 7/16 - again, I haven't tried a 1/2 inch yet, but it looks like it would fit. The unit is very quiet. It does vibrate a little, but I use it on a table without locking it down in any way, and I've had no problems with it. It drills nice, straight holes - a buddy loaned me a Dremel tool in a tiny drill press, and the WEN is definitely superior to that. I'm only using it for occasional hobby drilling, and for that it is a good value for the price.

Excellent quality drill. Fit and finish exceeded my expectations for the price. Parts nicely machined and drill functions exceptionally well. Perfect sized drill press for garage workbench. Doesn’t take up too much space compared to larger sized drill presses. Highly recommended for homeowner/handyman use.
