Q: Has anyone used this to make Liege waffle? Thank you.

I purchased this specifically to make Liege waffles. With my previous waffle maker difficulty of cleanup made making them a chore. When looking for a new waffle maker, removable plates was a must-have feature. These make great Belgium waffles, and I look forward to making Liege waffles without having to worry about cleanup.

Q: Is this a basic old time waffle maker or equivalent to a Belgian Waffle. I am looking for basic not belgian

It is a Classic waffle maker ... NOT the thick Belgian type. I don't care for the Belgian type either. All Clad may be the only decent brand that makes Classic style.

Q: If any of you had to do it over again would you still buy this one, or opt for the 4 square

It all depends on the number of simultaneous waffles you néed to make. It makes a set of waffles every 3 mins or so and that is the only reason I would get the four is to increase production rate the two has always been enough for us. The 2 is also much smaller to store as well :-). If I had to buy again I would get the 2 again.

Q: What kind of nonstick coating and where is it made?

Manufacturers actually have a number of different nonstick coating options from which to choose for their products. Some coatings cost cheaper and are much less durable than others. A few years ago, I learned that All-Clad was using Excalibur® coating on its nonstick cookware. Excalibur® is an externally reinforced coating and is known as the most wear-resistant of all low-friction and release Fluoropolymer (PTFE) coatings. It differs from conventional nonsticks by combining tough PTFE-rich coatings with stainless-steel alloy reinforcement. I presume that this is the same nonstick coating All-Clad has applied to their waffle makers, as well.
