Great summer read for tweens
I gave this as a gift to a friend's daughter who was looking for a fun breezy read, and this book knocked it out of the ball park. Wholesome without being dated, and contemporary without being too advanced, this was the perfect book about young girls having fun on the beach in the summer. The fact that they are a diverse group of girls is a plus, and Carey deftly handles their differences without being heavy handed. Highly recommend.

Perfect Middle Grade Beach Read
Jenna is completely devoted to doing well on the swim team, since she sees it as her ticket to either the Olympics or the US Naval Academy. Her family farms. Selena wants to be an actress, so wants to try out for the school play, and does a lot on social media to further her brand. Her Ecuadorean parents are the caretakers of a large estate on Cape Cod. Ziggy's family is very into living off the grid, and Piper lives with her mom and grandmother, and helps run the family horse farm. All four are friends, and are very concerned when a huge storm is supposed to hit the Cape. While Ziggy's mom thinks all of the warnings are a fake government conspiracy, the other families take it seriously. Jenna is distraught that her parents won't let her go to a swim meet that has not been canceled because of the storm, even though her arch rival, Franny, is going to be there. Once the storm ramps up, and people are evacuated to the local middle school, there is plenty to occupy the girls. Piper's family has a lot to do because of the livestock, and because the daughter of a rich couple who have a nearby summer home has run away from her boarding school, and they are trying to keep her safe. The girls help out at the school, and are inspired by seeing the local student lifeguards who are helping, and make plans of their own! While their town is hit hard by the storm, the fact that people banded together kept the problems to a minimum. This is a great description of what it is like to have to endure a hurricane along the sea coast! All of the details about preparations and evacuation are great. The characters seem representative of the diversity of the population in Cape Cod, and they all have their own interests and family situations. I especially liked Piper's family farm, and the descriptions of the fancy summer homes. These would be fantastic books to read by a boring suburban Midwest pool in the summer!Young readers love books about surviving natural disasters, like My Life as a Meme's great depiction of California fires or Bishop's 14 Hollow Road's coverage of a tornado. This is a four book series, and each volume concentrates on a different character. It's a great escapist read to the beach along the East Coast, which in Ohio is impossibly exotic. I love that the girls will be working as life guards and look forward to all of the adventures and drama!

Middle Grade
This is a middle grade book, and this is the first book in the Summer Lifeguards series. This book has one book with an autistic character, but that character is not a big character. I do feel this book shows how other kids sees an autistic kid. This book is mostly about a young girl that loves to swim help her town/family get through a hurricane. I think this is a cute book that young girls will enjoy. I receive an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

SO good! Age appropriate, addresses real-life topics and still fun to read!
This book wins the trifecta! It's age-appropriate, it addresses the issues that keep young people (and others!) awake at night with anxiety, and yet somehow, magically, is still fun to read! It's a great gift for any reader and I only wish they had come out a couple of years earlier! Who else could write about teenage girls and hair and make it so charming? This is a book that will help youngsters realize "Oh, it isn't just me who feels ...." and by presenting that form of shared experience, make the reader feel better. Fully recommend this series.

An engaging, feel-good story for middle grade readers
I loved this book! Four diverse friends - Jenna, Selena, Piper, and Ziggy - are all dealing with their own issues. But when a hurricane threatens their Cape Cod town, the girls put aside their own troubles and pull together to help people in need. In the process, they learn what really matters. This is an upbeat, positive story that realistically portrays how an east coast community prepares for a dangerous weather event. Highly recommended! An exciting page-turner full of suspense. You will be cheering for each character!

Middle grade -
This is a great new series to follow. Although the girls all have real world issues, this books ends on a very cheerful note. It is good for kids to see the issues and that they were resolved in a good way. It is a feel good book and a great start to a series. Additionally, the characters are different in their own way which is refreshing. This author really excels at understanding how kids think about differences. I highly recommend.

Excellent summer reading book series
Everyone one of this authors books has been written so age appropriate along with accurate as the author herself I believe has resided in a summer community from a very young age. My daughter has read every one of her books and I’m told one is better than the next. What a great time to be a young adult, outside , in a beach town! Adorable, enthusiastic, well written and really colorful.

Finally “cool books’ for my daughter!
This series makes the perfect gift! I really try to give the my children and their friends fun reading material and the feedback on this latest was great. Getting kids to read at age 10 is tough, but when the content is well written and exciting for them with popular culture references... perfection!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
