Q: I'm buying an iron with lots of steam holes so wouldn't this defeat that purpose by covering many?

The cover has many steam holes. It does not defect the purpose.

Q: Can you use iron shield to on decals

To be on the safe side the answer is no! Especially if the iron is on a high setting the decal will smelt. I always use old pillow cases or old pieces of damp white sheet to cover the decal on a low setting but you must be careful.

Q: is this a solid piece or does it have steamholes?

yes, it has steam holes. I run a professional drapery workroom and use this almost every day, all day. I have had mine for over a year and it works great!!! I keep my large Rowenta iron on the highest setting and easily iron all kinds of fabrics with full heat and steam. you will not be disappointed!!!

Q: Is this cover silicone or Teflon?

Im thinking its silicone. Whatever it is..its brilliant. I can iron all items wuthout needing to alter the temperature on my iron.
