A Real Game changer!
I've never worked with plumbing until recently. I've done several successfully on my 1955 home using sharkbite products. It's amazingly easy to use and cost effective. You can use it on copper or pex or to connect the two together. You can also use it to connect a straight pipe to a screw on connector. You can get shark bite bite on and off valves as well. I suggest that you check around for pricing. They vary wildly on different sites and stores. I also strongly suggest that if you are a new to the use of this product and or plumbing that you visit YouTube and watch some of the DIY videos related to your project. There are numerous videos available by both professionals and DIY's. Believe me, you will feel much more confident after you watch one or more of these videos. The sharkbite product has held well according to studies and the few that failed were thought to be due to burrs. To deburr your pipe use a deburring product on the end of each pipe or use sand paper or a nail file to sand until the end is smooth. Also the sharkbite must be inserted to the proper depth. Videos will show you how to do this simple step. You can also choose to insert a shut off valve which may come in handy in the future at relevant sites.Pex is supposed to be superior to copper. I have found that pex is very cheap, easy to work with, and useful for patches. There are different kinds of pex. Pex A and pex B are what you will usually see available. Pex A is more flexible and expands, it is freeze resistant. You should use this if you live in a cold climate. It is also easier to use for small patches, like a few feet or less. I haven't seen Pex A for sale on Amazon but I've seen it at the local hardware and on ebay. Pex B is stiffer and harder to bend or straighten however warming it up helps. If you are using pex be sure to use the proper type particularly around hot water heaters.Hope that helps! Good luck on your project!

Fantastic option to repair minor pipe damage
First, I have to say I'm not the handiest person in the world. I've done many minor general repairs around my home over the years, but plumbing issues have always been kind of intimidating. Unfortunately, several months ago one of my pex pipes under the house, leading to the kitchen sink, was chewed up by an animal that had managed to sneak down there. After researching the issue I attempted a couple of repairs that didn't get the job done. While researching what other options I had online, I ran into many repair sites that raved about SharkBites for jobs such as the one I needed done. I talked to someone I knew who had used one in the past and likewise had nothing but positive things to say about them. I didn't have money for a plumber so based on all the positive reviews and word of mouth gave this item a shot.It worked pefectly. I purchased a tubing cutter along with this, measured how much pex I'd have to cut, got under the house and it literally took me less than five minutes to cut the pex and install the SharkBite. I did this eight months ago and the repair is still holding strong. The only thing I'd advise is that this item doesn't come with the removal tool, so I'd highly suggest getting that along with this. If you end up installing it incorrectly or unevenly, its very difficult to remove with the tool. Installation doesn't require a tool, only removal.I can't even stress how relieved I was to find the SharkBite and that it was so easy to install. Highly recommended to repair minor holes in pipes or as a general coupler to join two pieces together.

Perfect of working on existing plumbing
Trying to solder wet plumbing is really hard to do properly and using a torch runs the risk of setting your house on fire. These fittings solve those problems. The fittings are well made and easy to use, just make sure to follow directions. A clean cut (don't use a hack saw!) and a clean pipe is vital to prevent leaks. I watched some videos on-line to avoid making mistakes. The tools that they sell for de-burring the cut, marking the installation depth, and undoing the fitting if necessary don't cost very much and I highly recommend that you buy them.

10 minute repair without special tools
It was necessary to fix a hot water line that was installed 35 years ago. My normal fix would be to take the fittings apart and re-sweat them. The problem is that the fittings I purchased in 2023 are larger diameter than the pipe of 1998. I had used shark bite products when installing toilet valves and a pipe repair in the past successfully but didn't want to spend the money on one this time. After multiple attempts to sweat connectors and creating solder blobs inside of the pipe I decided to spring for shark bites. Yes they are pricey but the are very easy to use and I have yet to have one leak. One important suggestion is that the cut on the pipe must be cut "square" and the cut de-burred. The pipe also needs to be round and smooth. I used emory cloth just to make sure that the surface of the pipe was clean and smooth. Sandpaper will work just as well. Push the pipe into the shark bite, let go, and then push it in again hard. Rest easy that the thing isn't going to leak at the sharkbite joint. At least that's my experience. Oh, btw my nephew is a plumber and he swears by these things for repairs.

Get at least 2 of these!
These are overpriced. Having said that, every homeowner with PEX in their house should have at least two of these and a PEX cutter on hand (along with a length of PEX) at all times. PEX is great stuff, but it can be damaged easily by sharp objects and UV. If it does blow out for whatever reason, you can easily patch it with two of these and a length of PEX to replace the bad pipe. All you need to do to use these is cut the PEX flush and shove it in the coupling. That's it! I was amazed the first time I saw it. These also work on copper and CPVC, but NOT on PVC cold pipe! PEX is hard to cut with a blade, and you will have a hard time getting it square. Invest in a PEX cutter; there are no burs on the tubing to mess up the seal like there would be if you use a hacksaw or other blade.
