How big is the box it comes in? not the game itself. i'm trying to see if we have room to store it.

The box is almost exactly the same as the game ... 19.5"x19.5"x2.875"

Is there a way to play this as a one-player game?

It's physically unplayable as a one player game. One individual pitches from one end of the playfield (behind the centerfield fence) and the other individual hits on the other end behind home plate.
