Appear weak when you are strong, appear strong when you are weak
I dont think it is possible to make a game with so few components that would so thoroughly capture the spirit of that mantra.Among two experienced players (you'll be experienced after about an hour of play) the game-within-the-game quickly becomes a cautious parrying of sussing out your opponent's strength while masking your own.Play a powerful card right off the bat? You'll score them off. Flip a six strength power card in a contested theater with one turn left to go? You'll walked the tightrope all the way home. The constant bluffing, obfuscation and posturing makes Air, Land and Sea anything but formulaic. A skillful tactician who can quickly find the most effective use of any hand is at equal odds with a player taking a more strategic path of clever withdrawls and bluffs to box their opponent into a corner where retreat becomes impossible.Only mild complaint is that this is not as compact as it could be. Score tokens and theatre mats could all have been printed on the same sized cards as the battle cards. This is a great game for long train/plane trips, travel or camping, and I'll probably do some makeshift fabricating of those oversized components to maximize this games portability and have it all fit in one card sized box. This is not a big enough complaint to knock a star off, though.

Simple but fun game
This isn't exactly "risk but a card game", but it still captures the abstract sense of conquering the world with a heavy luck element. Setup is instantaneous, and each round plays in only a few minutes. Many rounds end early, because the scoring mechanism encourages players to quit if they don't think they can win a particular round. Will be appreciated most by kids (roughly 9 to 13), since as an adult you can figure out the strategies very quickly, which means luck becomes the dominant factor.

There is a lot of game in a tiny box
I consider this a "micro-game", since it only has 18 cards to play from, and only 12 in any round, but the mechanics and cleverness means every game is different. The cards and effects are deceptively simple, but the order you play them, and the ways you can manipulate and outwit your opponent (and vice-versa) means this tiny portable box punches way above its weight. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a 2-player-only game that plays quickly.
