and Methods of Obtaining the Odors of Plants The Art of Perfumery-With Instructions for the Manufacture of Perfumes for the Handkerchief, Scented Powders, Odorous Vinegars, Dentifrices, Pomatums, Cosmetics, Perfumed Soap, Etc., to which is Added an Appendix on Preparing Artificial Fruit-Essences, Etc. is a classic perfumery study by G. W. Septimus Piesse. The patrons of perfumery have always been considered the most civilized and refined people of the earth. If refinement consists in knowing how to enjoy the faculties which we possess, then must we learn not only how to distinguish the harmony of color and form, in order to please the sight, the melody of sweet sounds to delight the ear; the comfort of appropriate fabrics to cover the body, and to please the touch, but the smelling faculty must be shown how to gratify itself with the odoriferous products of the garden and the forest. Review: Informative - Great book for knowledge points on perfumery. Review: Great info, but the translation seems incomplete - I bought this to get some more insight into the theory and artistry of mixing perfumes, and it's great information. However, this particular edition seems lacking. There are often random punctuation following some words, references to page numbers (none of the pages in this book are numbered), and references to illustrations (there are none).

A good book
The book covers pretty much the basics of perfumery. Nevertheless, the book is not as interactive. Too wordy.

too archaic
This book was written before I was born, I believe...any how this stuff is extremely out of date. If you are looking for something historical, then try this. If you want current info, skip it.

No es lo que esperaba
Estoy haciendo una investigación y este libro trae poca información comienzo a sospechar que la edición quitó la información sustancial, también parece que no pasó por el proceso de diseño editorial, las páginas parecen un escaneado bien impreso.

A bit dated
Pros: a somewhat decent overview of scent extraction and use. I learnt a few things. Cons: what era was this written in? There's no publication date, page numbers, or anything about the publisher. The language is obscure, referring to 'perfumes for the handkerchief', using hundred weights as a measurement, and at one point suggesting using asbestos to soak up a scent. The use of quotation marks left me confused, until I realised it meant ditto, but the lack of commas and bullet points makes deciphering some of the recipes a codebreaker's game. Also, some characters didn't translate, marked as _ . Overall, it's legible but badly edited, dated, but with a lot of content that's still relevant, although please don't follow the advice about asbestos.
