Couldn't get into it
I really struggled to get into this one. I didn't find it in the least suspenseful and, like The Memory Game, full of padding. I actually gave up reading this one because I didn't have the patience to persevere.

I came to this novel late having re-read 'The Red ...
I came to this novel late having re-read 'The Red Room' and discovering a couple of the Frieda Klein books in a charity shop. I was gripped initially but the plot didn't really stand up to scrutiny. It spoiled it for me that the killer was revealed at the second killing and the subsequent implication that it was the policeman was very unbelievable. The comment on the back of my copy ' a very satisfying twist' was completely inaccurate in my opinion.

Better than Killing Me Softly
I read Killing Me Softly and wasn't too impressed, but I liked it enough to try a second book by Nicci French, so I ordered this one. It's a great step up from Killing Me Softly and I'm sure I'll be reading more of Ms French's books as she knows how to write a page turner. The story is good, it moves at a reasonable pace and most characters are quite believable. However, there are still questions remaining to be answered at the end of the book and that's why I haven't given it 5 stars.
