The Murderbot Diaries: All Systems Red / Artificial Condition / Rogue Protocol / Exit Strategy

I love the Murderbot books. They are very funny, full of excitement and adventure and a pleasure to read. There is a lot of violence in them but the setting is so outlandish that it seems entirely unreal, just like the whole setting for these stories of a construct, part robot part human, with a concience is unreal.The four books came quickly and were in very good condition. Be aware that the four books, the first in a longer series, are four episodes in one long story featuring the same characters. There are more books in the series still about Murderbot and his friends/clients, but these are the first and set the scene.

This is a great series, some of my favorite all time books.

Page turning pleasure. Enjoyable engaging Sci-Fi of the highest order. Strong characters, great world building and cynically optimistic. Perfect for the 21st Century.

Great story from start to finish.Plenty of action and some dry humour.Also gets you thinking.

Great novellas I really enjoyed them.

These books are OK, but not as good as the hype. Very similar to The Stainless Steel Rat by Harry Harrison with the major change that the key character is a Cyborg which is not supposed to have a mind of its own but developed one from watching soap operas.An enjoyable read, but I cannot imagine reading more than once.

This should have been published as a single volume rather than four novella. £10 a book for these slim volumes, even hardback in a fancy slipcase, smacks of moneygrabing on the scale of the corporations Martha Wells derides in these very books.The story itself is humourous and competently written but hardly groundbreaking. They are very episodic and seem like they were intended as screen plays for a potential t.v. show that was never commissioned.

Like many other, I LOVE Murderbot!

I LOVE these books. I’m not a huge fan of Scyfi, but these books are pure gold! They include adventure, suspense, a reluctant hero, and they are so funny!! They are attention gripping. I blew through them and then had to order the other 3 that are out..and I still want more!! I would say this is my 3rd favorite series..which is saying something because up until a year ago I only had 1 favorite series ( the wheel of time) and other books I enjoyed, but couldn’t rank. Now my list is 1: Wheel of Time, 2: Stormlight Archives and 3: Murderbot Diaries. For context, I have read a massive number of books and series over the course of my 40 years so the fact that this ranks in my top 3 is saying something. Buy them and read them!! You can thank me for my advice later LOL!
