No they do not lock. There is a detent that helps hold them open but no lock mechanism.

does it have a hole to be able to put it on a keychain?

No it does not. That said, it's kind of big for a keychain in my opinion.

Is it possible to temporarily remove the knife blade for later reinstall when gifting to a younger child?

I have never done it but I would think so. The blade is very small. I put them in survival kits I make for a survival class I teach to in elementary schools.
