Simple vfl option, very affordable. Use it in short distance 1ft to 500ft at most could be used for longer distances but that not my use case or need at the moment.

This is not a fancy visual light pen, but it works and it's super cheap at time of writing. The only thing that I would change is that the on/off/blinking switch should have off at the bottom, blinking in the middle, on at the top, so it's easy to ensure it's off. Maybe also have a lock switch to ensure it stays off when not in use. Not sure if that light is safe to look at, but I doubt it, and in that case I don't want to worry about it popping on in my pocket to get a nasty surprise when I take it out.

Does not come with batteries, takes double AA batteries 1.5V. If you have fiber internet or you work for a fiber optic internet company it will work wonders for you. now technically I ordered this like 2 seconds ago but a work for a fiber company and we use these a lot every day for trouble shooting internet outages and having this as a customer can save you time waiting for your internet provider to come to you home which can take as much as 5 or more days depending on your provider and your home location

The light was powerful enough to to test to see if the fiber was still good at a half mile. Just yesterday had a company had the in ground PVC pipe broken. Luckily didn't break the fiber. Pulled the broken pipe out by pulling fiber back to that point. Repair and pull back. Risky as didn't have replacement, while having fiber out of its protective cover. Glad to check the lines before finishing up.

The only thing that you can complain about this product is that it doe snot come with the two AA batteries that you need to operate the fault indicator.Other than that, it works like a charm and is price very competitively at the bottom of the price range for similar products.Great buy!

My husband installed cable for over a decade and loves this tool more than any similar item he had from the company. It's also a great value on top of everything else. It does require batteries so make sure you have AA's on hand.
