Barrons Educational Series CCRN Exam with Online Test

Highly recommended. Questions are straight to the point. May not be exactly the same questions as CCRN, some are very similar, but most of it is pretty the same length or format. I studied this book from cover to cover, easy to follow, comprehensible, concise, straight to the point. There’s 127 questions total post topics and 2 full length 150 question practice exams in the book, and 1 online. Don’t forgot to take the one online, it’s free! Great resource just to practice your brain in answering questions.. FAST. Time is definitely your biggest enemy when you’re taking the test. The faster you read the question and understand what it is asking you, the faster you get to eliminate what is not the answer and be left with the right choice. Make sure you take the time to read the question. And doing practice questions even if they won’t be the exact same questions on the test — will still help your brain think fast and make the quickest right choice. That’s the key to passing this nerve wracking CCRN test! And yes, I passed my test at 80%! I also did the AACN 2018 150 practice exam and I watched Laura Gasparis online videos twice! I did a total of 1500 practice questions and actually reviewed all the questions that I missed and I understand how I missed it. Mostly because I didn’t read the questions correctly. Be careful with those highlighted key words like “except” or “priority”. All the choices seems right except one, so pick the one that is not right. And all the choices are right but pick the one you would do first. It was a very hard test. I took it yesterday 28Jul. But it was doable. Practice practice practice!! I also picked up the Certification and Core Review for High Acuity, Progressive and Critical Care Nursing 2018 that has 450 super long super hard questions. I only did the first 75 of the questions and did horribly, like 60% don’t panic, the hardest questions on the CCRN looks exactly like the ones on this book, but not all of them, you probably see about 25 super hard questions but you still have 25% chance of getting them right even if you’re just guessing. The rest of the hundred questions are pretty straight forward — meaning you either know the answer, or you misread the question. You can easily eliminate the wrong answers or right answers if they are looking for that one wrong answer.

I just passed the CCRN with flying colors and used this book as well as the following:Online PESI review course by Cyndi Zarbano“Ace the CCRN” Practice questions by Nicole Kupchik“Ace the CCRN” study guide by Nicole KupchikI did ALL of the practice questions from the Barron’s book and read much of the content including cardiovascular, pulmonary, neuro, and hemodynamics and made flash cards. The Barron’s book is concise and easy to follow with fun acronyms to remember certain key points. It includes the blue print for the exam and has stars to indicate things that are commonly seen on the CCRN exam. I think among all the prep books, the Barron’s book is where you get the most for your money.Overall I think the CCRN questions on the actual exam were more difficult and required more critical thinking than the questions in the Barron’s book, however I do believe the practice questions from the Barron’s book helped prepare me to pass the CCRN. I gave myself about 6 weeks and studied about 15 hrs per week give or take.My only complaint about this book is it differed a little bit from my other sources regarding which EKG changes are correlated with each type of MI which was confusing for me but ultimately I chose to study my other sources for just this topic only. Otherwise I highly recommend this book!

Really this book is all you need to pass CCRN. The content covered here is easy to understand, not too long and wordy like Pass CCRN. I used this book and wished I wouldn't have wasted money listening to the CCRN audio from ACCN. If you want extra questions to boost your confidence the PASS CCRN ones are nice. Do NOT buy the book, just buy the questions from the website for $26. Regarding Barron's CCRN book, you need to know the content inside/out and be able to answer the practice tests. I swear I had a few of the same ones on the exam. I found the rationals most helpful. Regarding the test itself, content wise after mastering this book, I found it easy, BUT the questions themselves were so poorly written I had no idea what they were asking me. I did well enough with 115. I have no idea if this grade is from the 125 counted or the 150 presented. Who cares, I passed. Draw back of this book, it is a wonderful resource but so flimsy I would never take it to work because it will rip easy. Bonus--it is cheap and all you need!

I only used this study guide, it was super helpful in narrowing down what I needed to know and specifically what I didn't. I didn't watch the famous $300 videos I keep hearing about, or take any sort of expensive prep course. I also purchased the correlating flash cards but didn't use them much. The only other source of study I had was a CCRN study app on my phone but most of the time it was just this book! The format made it easy for me to retain the info and the practice questions were super helpful-- I was really disheartened when I took the practice tests because I did poorly, but the rationales explained everything clearly and come to find out the actual CCRN exam questions were easier than the ones in this book, so it did a great job for prepping me for all of the hardest questions on the exam! And the price can't be beat!

I don't usually write reviews, but since I relied so heavily on what people thought of this book and how well they did on the test I thought I'd share my honest thoughts. This is book is good. Plain and simple. Not great, but not horrible. It starts with a review of how the exam will be, tips and strategies, and then it breaks it down by each subject and how long you should study each section. I found this very helpful in planning how long I should study for and which subjects to pay closer attention to (I studied on my days off for 5 weeks). While I do appreciate how this book was structured and most of the information it provided, there were times that things were misspelled and some information in one section contradicted the same information in another section. For instance, in the multisystem section it says in late sepsis your RAP, PAP, and PAOP increase, but in the hemodynamics section it shows PAOP may not change or will go up, everything else will go down. Another example: In electrolytes, causes of hypernatremia can be from DKA and HHS (which makes sense), but in a practice question I got the answer wrong because "HHS patients are typically hyponatremic". So which is it?? I looked it up and I guess it just depends. Anyway, I found this especially frustrating when all I want is a clearer clinical picture and consistent information to help me pass. The two practice exams at the end were very nice and semi-helpful. I found them to actually be easier than the exam itself. I wouldn't depend on the advertised third online exam. It had a good chunk of questions from the previous two exams in it as well as some new ones thrown in there. So when I was done it said I did really well, but it was only because I already knew the answer to about 20 questions--which does not help me when I need to gauge what I know/don't know before the test. I think overall this book covered MOST information I saw on the exam, but definitely not all. I supplemented my studying with the Laura Gasparis videos (definitely do not JUST depend on those--very entertaining woman, but she's not as in-depth as this Barron book can go) and I practiced more questions with the Elsevier PASS CCRN online thing. I give this book 4 stars because of the easy to understand, concise while also thorough information it provides. I feel as though I would not have passed my exam without it (108/125).
