Without going into what I do, I will say that I Have extensive training in traffic safety and emergency management/ investigation.I had the round prior version and was very disappointed. Thinking that these would be better than the earlier version I decided to try them. I will say that I am disappointed in the light output and construction. Understand that these have 4 standard Leds per side. The problem with this is that if it is off axis there is little to no light output. What this means is that if you don’t exactly aim the flat side toward oncoming traffic they do not provide much warning. Basically LEDs of this type are directional with only light output at maximum if it faces head on. Very little side light if you move to the side. When I opened the light up Most of the Leds were facing off center or up or down. They all should be facing straight on for maximum light warning.Remember if the led is facing down and you place the puck on the roadway no light is facing oncoming traffic. Same if its facing up or away from center. So after repositioning the leds light output improved. I also angled the outside leds of each side slightly to shine slightly off center for a little extra side warning. This unfortunately only leaves 2 leds to face oncoming traffic. They need to at least put one to two leds in each corners for additional warning. If the leds were upgraded to higher output chip type this would also improve light output and off axis warning. One other suggestion is to clearly mark the on and off switch so you are not fumbling with trying to figure out the appropriate switch to press in an emergency. Especially if trying to rapidly deploy them and get out of traffic and harms way. You can see in the picture I took a black marker and clearly marked it. Some other suggestions is to change to AA not AAA batteries as AA’s are one of the most widely available batteries in the U.S.

Good product design with four LEDs in each direction, much better than round units with only one LED that faces towards traffic. Also, the white LEDs are super bright - Great Flashlight. I am glad I purchased a product made in the USA - according to their website - family owned business. Now the downside, only 1 of the three units worked correctly. One unit has an LED that was not working at all and the other unit one LED was bend sideways and not correctly aimed to be of any use in an emergency. Maybe just a bad quality control day, so I returned to Amazon and it is sending me a replacement. The lights have a lifetime warranty from MARCALA, so I am going to give the company other try.Update: Like another customer wrote - it appears while it may be a family owned company in America,on the side of the box it reads "Made in China by Awesome People", like most things these days. However, while I was waiting for replacements from Amazon, I received an e-mail from Rob at Marcala and he offered to send me free replacements - nice to see a company that stands by its Lifetime Warranty. However, since Amazon sent me replacements in less than two days, I declined this offer. Based on Marcala's response- I will be ordering more LED Flares shortly and changing my rating from two stars to four stars!
