Pennington Smart Seed Dense Shade Grass Mix Bag 7 lb

I don’t really write review frequently unless it’s really good or bad product. This one is the case of good product that I feel I have to reward it by giving a 5 stars review. I have a heavy shade area being bald at my house that nothing be able to grow in that area for years. I purchased this grass seeds for shade just to play around to see if I have the luck this time. I was following the instructions to prepare the ground and planted seeds. I can already see they started to germinate by keep the soil well moistened for about a week. Now my grass is much visible by 2 weeks mark. The germination rate is very high, good quality seeds for sure. I have confidence about this product will help me make my garden much alive now. Strongly recommended.

Had a chronic problem area along the side of the house where it NEVER gets sunlight due to the shade from the building and some large trees. I had tried various other seeds and planting solutions. This is the one that finally came through! High quality seeds that germinated fully and provided a lush lawn. They take a while to grow.. not for the impatient among us. Plus make sure you use some peat moss to cover the seeds initially so they stay moist and don't get eaten by the birds.. But after a couple weeks the sprouts came up and within another week or two the lawn looked great and it's been over three months now and looks wonderful. We even had a large family party a couple of weeks ago and the lawn stood up to lot of foot traffic. Very happy with this seed and will use it again!

Nice texture but the grass is very slow going. After a few months I thought that it would have filled in more. Still, the quality is good and there seemed to be very few weeds.

I would give zero stars, followed the instructions for planting that was listed on the bag and went above and beyond, watered for several days, it's been 14 days now and not one single seed has germinated of approximately 2k square feet I can't find even one blade of new grass I did contact the manufacturer through the Amazon return section, the company has returned the contact Email with a reference number, they want a whole list of information before they'll do a refund, I mean several Questions that require a return answer, one is a picture of the barcode on the bag ( will that got trashed the day I planted the seeds ) , I emailed them back and asked if they also wanted my first born child and my right nut,,, ridiculous, I told them to just keep the $30 and to keep their worthless products, too much of a hassle. Just go to tractor supply and get your seeds, but don't buy Pennington brands Update 03/24/2025 I suppose I'm gonna have to eat crow, I give it 5 stars,21 days later after planting and it appears that all of the seeds have germinated and looking very good. Did not take very well and grow grass from the seeds.

I should have read the one star reviews. Raked the soil applied this seed cover with a light layer of top soil watered daily and nothing not one blade of grass. Applied 2 year old seed from Ace Hardware in another spot and it's a growing great. I couldn't find a packaging date on the Pennington seed bag, which I thought was the standard for grass seed.

I love this grass. I have been trying to get grass on one side of my house for years. I bought this and it quickly grew everywhere but where it was rock and clay. This year i hauled in dirt then seeded. In only two weeks i have a lot of grass growing. I live in the DFW metroplex and this grass stayed green all winter. It is also very soft. I will admit that when i seed i seed with a go big or go home philosophy. It works. Grass is great! Very little sunlight in between the houses.

This worked really well for filling in the shady areas of my yard where grass just wouldn’t grow before. It doesn’t need much sunlight—just a few hours a day—and started sprouting within about a week or so with regular watering.
