828LM - Internet Gateway - Only Works with Security+ 2.0 Garage Door Openers - Smart Control for MyQ-Enabled Devices Including Gate Operators -Ethernet connectivity only, Black, Plastic

This works perfectly, the peace of mind this provides is worth every cent! Have the ability to open and close my gate remotely is everything, no more worries about did I accidentally leave my gate open is no more! Don’t even think further, just order it, it sets up in minutes truly!

There seems to be a number of now outdated videos to help setting up this device so I thought it worth while to provide more recent information. Even the most recent video I found seems to be slightly different than my experience but it was the most helpful. Having said all that, it is easier than I would have ever expected. 1. You will need to download the My Q app onto your phone and set up an account. (Note: This is not the same as setting up an account with Chamberlin or Liftmaster. (I discovered that the hard way.) 2. Write down the serial number off the back of the unit. You will need that. 3. Plug the cables into the device. (Power and Ethernet cable) This device will live by your router and is hardwired to it. The videos I found said the blue power light will illuminate. On mine, it flashed for a moment when I applied power and then remains out. The green light will start blinking and go solid in a very short amount of time, at least in my case. It is now ready. 3. When you begin the setup in the app, you will find "Smart Garage Hub" in the devices. Do Not pick Garage Door. Once you select smart garage hub you will see pictures of the various types. Pick the one that looks like the 828LM and follow the prompts to enter the serial number you wrote down previously. When you get to the prompt, hit "allow for home data". Other settings can be adjusted later if you want. I left them at whatever the default was. (During setup, I did rename mine garage door.) 4. When it is time for pairing, you will go out to the garage and either press the YELLOW pairing button on the ceiling opener, or if your wired wall button has a learn button under the smoke cover you can press that twice instead of climbing a ladder to get to the learn (yellow) button on the motor. Be prepared for this in advance so you know what you will need to do. When I did mine, I began with the door open. Once I got the message that the pairing was complete, I could see in the app the door was open. It didn't work immediately so I closed the door with the button and after that it worked as expected. Maybe I just didn't wait long enough or it didn't like the door being open to begin with, but after that it has worked flawlessly. When you send a close command through the app, there is a delay. the light blinks the door beeps to alert anyone that it is about to close. This is a safety feature and not a flaw. It would allow time for someone to get out of the way of the door. Also, from what I understand, you can control multiple doors, (or gates), with the one internet gateway as well as installing this app in multiple phones, such as your spouse. So, you could have three doors and control them all with one gateway. They MUST have a yellow learn button on the ceiling motor and say My Q with no other verbage with the My Q lettering on the side of the ceiling motor. Any time the door is open or closed, even when it is not through the app, you can be notified of its status unless you disable that notification. Anyplace your phone has an internet connection, you can control the operation of the door. (You're at the grocery store and don't remember if you closed the door. You can check the app and close it if you forgot, or open it for someone if needed.)

I bought this because my sister accidentally left her garage door opened overnight; and being unaware of this the contents therein were burglarized. That's when I bought might. I also received a good amount of deliveries and I liked how I'd be able to remotely open my garage door to give others access. The setup of the unit really was a breeze, largely because it required an Ethernet (as opposed to a WiFi) connection to your network. However, I admit that setup was slightly confusing with two separate installation documents provided. Wisely I think, I watched two YouTube videos that ironed out the installation sequence "hands-on." I have a new 3-module (TP-Link) mesh whole home network system, and like at least one other here, was concerned because the two Ethernet ports on the module connected to my ISP's modem were obviously being used (1 IN from the modem, 1 OUT to an 8-port Ethernet switch), and the instructions state to connect this product to the router. HOWEVER, I found that the two Ethernet ports on one of my other two remaining modules worked perfectly, and simply used one of those. I received the solid green light (confirming connection) immediately. PERFECT! Registering the unit on the web was easy, and even going to my garage to press the "LEARN" buttons separately on each of my two garage door openers (I have two, one for the left and right, resp., outwardly-open garage doors) took ONLY the requisite two (on each) presses (they were the wall units; if you go to the motor unit on your ceiling it is a single press). I then downloaded the app and very intuitively and within seconds set up an alert that should either of my doors be open for more than 10 minutes, I'd get both a push and email notification. That's exactly what I wanted. Lastly, I very much like the idea that should I get a mid-day delivery that includes my being in contact with the deliverer, OR, I can contact a neighbor, I can now open either my L or R garage doors and have them place the package or large box or furniture inside my garage. Of course it's a big help that I have a security cam on the garage door. Ultimately, this product and its attendant app does precisely what I wanted and expected it to do. EMBARRASSINGLY, I've actually owned it since mid-July, but just installed it here mid-December. OK, so that's on me and my ubiquitous procrastination. But I truly don't know why I waited so long because after I took 15 minutes to read the documentation and find a couple of online videos, the full process of adding two "devices" (my left and right garage door openers, separately) took all of maybe 10 minutes. And now I have great peace of mind!

I struggled getting this device setup correctly because I misinterpreted the manual. This device is not capable of WIFI communications. It must be wired into your network where it can access the internet. These two points are key. The final point is that the unit must be within 400 feet of your garage door opener, gate opener or whatever remote device you are connecting to. You may need a second gateway if your intent is to control several devices that are far apart. This connection, to the end device, is a proprietary wireless connection, not WIFI. Enough with how I made this difficult, this device works great once configured properly. You need to setup an online account to start with and then connect the gateways to that account using the mobile app. Very intuitive to setup. Once the gateway is connected, adding your end devices is easy, just know where the program button is. In my case I connected to both personal and commercial garage door openers. The personal openers were easy, a button on the control panel in the garage. Commercial not so easy, I had to open the opener itself and push a button on the control board to start the programming sequence. Mine were 20 feet in the air so a man lift was needed, but easy to do. The app walks you through this process, again very intuitive and thought out. Fair warning only the L5 commercial openers have this capabilities, so check your openers first. You should check any opener to ensure it will work before ordering on the manufacturers website. My clients will not be buying $100.00 remotes for their door openers any more. They love not needing multiple remotes for all 5 of their openers, plus the security of knowing when they are open or closed wherever they are. They are planning on adding gateways to a second property so they don't need those remotes either. One device and an app takes care of all that. Thanks to the technical team at LiftMaster for their assistance in helping me get my install completed successfully.

Just got through installing this, along with a keypad. After installing this, not sure I'll ever use the keypad, but I guess if I was ever without my phone it may be helpful. About the unit, its very small (about the size of a pack of smokes) so can be hidden away easily. It worked just fine with two Lift Master 8550 Elites. Check for compatibility with your opener before purchasing. Most of the 1 and 2 star reviews seem to be dated, and/or come from people who bought this unit without checking compatibility. Others from people who really don't seem to have a good grip on technology. If you are comfortable with using Apps on your smartphone, you'll have no problems. Some of the negative review comments could be issues that Lift Master has addressed. In any case I'll go over a few items I did not have trouble with that other reviewers seemed to encounter. One reviewer indicated you need to put your account password in every time you open or close a door. This is not true. This is a default setting that can be easily changed in the app. It was also reviewed that the gateway would only work plugged directly into your router. Mine is plugged into an Ethernet jack and run to a patch panel then into my switch which my router is plugged into. It works just fine. No need to plug it directly to the router. When closing the garage door via the app, the door beep and the light flashes for about 10 second before the door goes down. This is a safety feature and seems sensible to me. A reviewer indicated you can not add new devices from the app, this is not the case. Mine worked great and I was able to easily add both my openers via the app. I just set this up today, but so far am very satisfied with everything it does. I'll update this review if I encounter problems in the future.

It's a nice way to add automation to Chamberlain/LiftMaster garage doors that don't necessarily support it because of their age. My doors have a purple button, so it seems to be compatible. It's really easy to install, although it must be hardwired to an Ethernet port. No WiFi. In my case one of the gateways I purchased was a return, so I had to reset it to added to my account. It was annoying, but easily fixed after an internet search. It's a shame the instructions aren't better to explain this one quirk. Also, you'll have to replace your garage door wall control, and you'll need to check with Liftmaster to see which is compatible with your existing opener to see if it's compatible. One last quirk. The "Learn" button now may not be compatible with all remote openers, so you may have to get out the ladder and press the learn button on the opener itself. Pros: Adds remote open/close capabilities provided you add a compatible wall control The app gives you notifications about when doors are opened or closed Modernizes your garage doors without replacing the opener Cons: Relatively expensive for what it does Does not support WiFi Instructions could be better, although good troubleshooting information is available online.

We have unfortunately had to return this product. No, it was not defective - just did not work in our settings due to its built-in inflexibility. Our router, which is a part of a mesh system, has two built-in Ethernet ports, but both are occupied. One of them is used by a TP-Link managed port switch. The other one is taken by the modem. This gateway product MUST be plugged directly into the router's available Ethernet port for it to work (we have verified this fact with a LiftMaster support technician). If your router does not have one available right now, do NOT buy this product, for it will not work. This gateway does not get along with any port, managed or otherwise, that is not in the router itself. A managed switch like ours is no good. We presume that an unmanaged port splitter would not work, either. It is very rigidly selective about the valid port. No open Ethernet port on your router, no go with this gateway. If you have a mesh system, like a Google WiFi or TP-Link Deco, the latter of which we use, you may think "Why not use an open Ethernet port on one of the satellite units if the main unit's ports are fully occupied?" No. That does not work, either, as we have tried it. This gateway MUST be plugged into the main (hub) unit's Ethernet port. A satellite unit's port does not cut it. [PLEASE SEE UPDATE ON JANUARY 7, 2020 BELOW BECAUSE THIS METHOD 'COULD' WORK.] By the way, when we plugged in this product directly into our router, it worked right away. It just happens to be that we cannot spare an Ethernet port just for this product (that is why we have a managed switch). But, as we have already mentioned, this thing cannot work with a managed port, so it had to be returned. Too bad for this inflexibility. Because of this rigid interface requirement, it gets a 3-star rating from us. (Updated April 14, 2019) We decided to give this product another try by buying it again and also a router that would give us additional Ethernet ports. We bought a TP-LINK Archer A7 AC1750 router. A heads-up: This Internet Gateway is NOT compatible with the TP-LINK Archer A7 router, for whatever the reason. This router is not listed in LiftMaster/Chamberlain's incomtability list, but should be. We have tried all sorts of things, including but not limited to port forwarding, seeing that LiftMaster/Chamberlain says that Port 53 is required for this product. To no avail. This Internet Gateway just does not work with this router. How we made this Internet Gateway work is as follows (just in case you have the similar issue): We pulled out an old ASUS router (RT-N56U) to see whether this product is compatible with it. It did turn out to be comptaible, and the blinking green light that had gone on for all eternity with the TP-LINK Archer A7 turned solid with the ASUS RT-N56U, which of course was a sign that the Internet Gateway was go. Once that happened, the rest was a breeze. We set up the MyQ app, and then the garage door remotely opened/closed with the huge button in the middle of the app screen. Success. If you have a right router, this product is super-easy to set up. If you do not, you could go through what we did. Because we did not want to use this old ASUS n-router for our Wi-Fi needs and not to waste the TP-LINK Archer A7 router which we had bought for this project, we shut down the radio of the old ASUS router to which the Internet Gateway was plugged in and connected the ASUS with the TP-LINK Archer A7 in the latter's access point mode. In other words, the old ASUS RT-NT56U just became a wired router to connect with the Internet Gateway, and the Wi-Fi duties were handed over to the newer TP-LINK Archer A7 (to which, incidentally, a mesh system is also connected in the AP mode). We hope that you will never need go through what we did by not even thinking about trying to connect this 828LM Internet Gateway to a TP-Link Archer A7, which, as we said above, is incompatible with it. P.S. We have no way to verify it, but suspect that this Internet Gateway is also incomptabile with the TP-Link Archer C7. Proceed with caution if you have that router. [UPDATE January 7, 2020 - Update on Connecting to a Mesh Satellite Unit] We have verified by actual use that the Netgear R6220 router IS compatible with this product. Thanks to a very helpful comment to our original review, as shown below, we revisited the part of the original installation in which we tried to connect this Internet Gateway to the available Ethernet port of one of the TP-Link Deco mesh satellite units. Much to our surprise, the green light went steady (that means 'Go') this time, which had not been possible at all the first time around. However, after only about a day, the green light was found blinking again, and we have not been able to recreate the success via this method since. However, because this (plugging into a mesh satellite unit instead of a router that is directly connected to the modem) method did work, however temporarily for us, it might work for you, maybe permanently. Who knows what it is about our own setup that is making it impossible to do this, and we hereby edit our review to say that connecting this product to a mesh satellite unit could work, however your mileage may vary. Please let us all know if you have had success.
