I am genuinely impressed with this SSD enclosure. The first thing that stood out to me was the sleek aluminum cover design; it not only looks premium, but it also gives me confidence that it dissipates heat really well during use. Most importantly, it solved exactly the problem I needed it to solve. It read my SSD drive like a charm. No hassle, no issues; just quick and reliable performance right away. The build quality is excellent. It feels incredibly solid, almost tank-like, and the full aluminum construction makes it feel durable and well-made. It’s also very intuitive to use. I didn’t even need to look at the instruction manual. I especially liked the lever mechanism, instead of dealing with tiny screws to secure the drive, the lever locks it in place perfectly, which makes setup much easier and more convenient. As for value, absolutely worth it. Honestly, the enclosure itself feels so well made that it’s worth keeping even if the SSD inside ends up being corrupt or unusable. Highly recommended!!!

So far, this device has been working great. I’m using it with a 4TB NVMe drive connected to my Mac mini, and it has done an excellent job keeping the drive nice and cool during use. The build feels solid, the connection has been reliable, and performance has been exactly what I needed.I especially appreciate that it helps manage heat well, since NVMe drives can get pretty warm depending on the workload. For my setup, it has been a simple and effective solution. Overall, I’m very happy with it and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable way to use an NVMe drive with a Mac mini. The product is extremely durable was easy to install it was a simple plug and Play. The cable length is a little bit short but it works just fine.

I use these to edit video directly off of and for storage. The first one I bought to put some 1TB SSDs I had lying around to work for a project. It worked well enough that when I later bought a 2TB SSD, I bought a second Sabrent specifically to dedicate to it, so I could keep large media on it and cut from it on my MacBook Pro. Real numbers, since "fast" is not useful: with a Samsung 990 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe inside, I measured 977.7 MB/s write and 906.0 MB/s read on Blackmagic Disk Speed Test from a MacBook Pro. That is the USB 10Gbps interface saturating rather than the drive, which is exactly what you should expect. Do not buy this hoping to see your NVMe's rated internal speeds. No enclosure on this interface will do that. What matters more for editing: it handles 4K and 8K ProRes 422 HQ and H.265 without issue, and Blackmagic RAW up to 8K. It only stops being viable at 12K DCI 60. I cut video straight off it without copying files locally first. The tool-free design is the real selling point, and it is not a gimmick. Most enclosures make you unscrew the housing, work the drive out, and reassemble everything just to change drives. With this one you press the button, the top pops up, and you swap the drive. No screws, no small parts to lose. If you rotate between multiple SSDs the way I do, that difference adds up fast. No heat issues at all, which was my main concern going in. NVMe drives in small aluminum enclosures have a reputation for cooking themselves, and I have not run into that under sustained editing work.

I use this a lot and it never fails me. It’s clearly quality made, and has lasted me a long time how. On SOME systems it doesn’t want to respect safe removal completely (select to remove the drive, it does seem to flush all write activity, but doesn’t always trigger the go-ahead to remove). I can live with that. It’s fast (when connected to a high-speed USB connection), such as a Thunderbolt 3 port. Also fully backwards compatible to slower USB type C and type A ports. I have two of these so far and both have been entirely dependable. I’ve used them to quickly back up entire Windows systems as the fastest external speeds the computer will support. The other I have a plethora of software, whatever I might need.

The Sabrent enclosure itself is very well made. When they say "tool-less," they really mean it. The case is hinged at the connector end and opens up like a clamshell. A 2280 fits without requiring installation of the rubber "nubber" used for shorter SSDs, so be sure to read the instructions before installing an SSD. There is a thermal pad mounted to the underside of lid that presses against the SSD when you close the enclosure. The lock that secures the tail end of the SSD requires some fiddling to get it lined up and then locked against the SSD screw notch. The enclosure case has a release button at the end opposite the connector and snaps shut. Overall, there are a lot of parts and close machining making up the enclosure. My complaints for this product have to do with the cable. First, the included cable is less than a foot long, making connection to rear-panel ports a real hassle. Second, Sabrent could have eliminated a lot of searching for USB 3.2 Gen 2 cables and adapters if they had included a separate USB 3.2 type C to type A cable for those of us having only type A ports on computers. Note that you absolutely must use a USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable plugged into a USB 3.2 port to achieve the best possible speeds from any SSD. For comparison, I benchmarked a Samsung 970EVO Plus 1TB SSD using the included USB-C cable and then with a generic USB-A to USB-C cable plugged into USB 3.2 ports. The included cable gave a performance boost 10X or more faster, with throughput matching what is claimed for the SSD. However, the enclosure cannot provide speed not inherent in the SSD itself. UPDATE The one truly sour note concerning this enclosure is factory service. After just over two years in use, one of the enclosures I bought in 2023 began corrupting any SSD placed in it, requiring a lengthy process of deleting partitions and reformatting the drive. The length of warranty is not stated in the manual or online. An inquiry to Sabrent product support yielded a message that implied the enclosure was not at fault ("just a 'bridge' between the drive and the computer")_ He then noted the warranty had expired, with an additional note indicating they wanted nothing to do with the making any attempt at further assistance. It is a real shame, as I still think this enclosure is the best of the lot, and I had proven to myself the enclosure itself was bad by moving the SSD to one of the other enclosures. The tech support borders on being useless.

This was the perfect enclosure to park my spare 500gb nvme ssd. the enclosure is slick, the button on one end opens up the enclosure easily and smoothly. Theres two thermal pads to transfer the heat from the nvme into the shell of the enclosure to manage heat. The indicator light is plenty bright and the cable works well. it was easy to install the ssd and it has standoffs for shorter nvme drives as well. when mounting a full size drive you get a smooth tool free instal. No fan so it opperates silently For the price i am happy with my purchase for sure. The cable is nice and short under 10inches long If your looking for an inclosure you could do way worse than this one.

Most products have clearly recognized brand names, making the buying decisions a bit easier between the usually more expensive brands and the cheaper no-names. The buyer’s best advice is usually you get what you pay for. Although not a household name, Sabrent is generally regarded as on of the most trusted brands of this kind of SSD enclosure. So when I needed one this week, but only for one task to clone my computer’s internal drive, I looked for this brand expecting to pay a premium price. I was pleasantly surprised to find this model down in the same price range as some of the ones with the really low ratings. What was I giving up over the Sabrent I bought last year for sixty bucks? WHAT’S THE CATCH If you put them side by side the difference is night and day. The premium model is much heavier, made of almost 100% aircraft grade aluminum while this model is part aluminum and part PVC plastic. But I also put this side by side with a really bad one that I didn’t even want to touch again, mainly because it was literally too hot to hold - imagine what it was doing to the expensive SSD inside. By comparison this one is much cooler, okay not as cool as the one that cost three times as much but at least it’s not going to set off any smoke alarms. Let’s face it, the two really important things are how cool it keeps the drive that it encloses and how fast the electronics inside let it communicate with your computer. A side benefit is being reasonably priced and it doesn’t hurt that it looks good. TOOL FREE if you’re going to put your SSD in an enclosure and never touch it again you can ignore this section. But if you have any intent of swapping the chip out a couple of times or more tool free can be a big issue. Why aren’t they all that way? There’s actually a good reason, if this enclosure is intended to safeguard your data drive through travel, exposure to the elements, prying hands, etc. having one that seals solidly shut is a good thing. This one is a prime example of superb design and simplicity. I only had to push one button to pop it open, slide the SSD into place and swivel a little plastic locking mechanism, no screws are needed. Then snap the lid shut and it’s ready to go. THE MISSING PIECE I have read the one star reviews that won’t accept this product because it doesn’t include the tiny set-screw. I’m not sure how to even react to that. Know this - it’s not needed, there is no place to use it. If you are using one of the shorter variants of SSD there is a small plastic plug to hold it in place, otherwise that’s what the full contact cover is designed to do. YES OR NO Data protection is no trivial matter. That’s not to say that this enclosure will protect the data on the drive it houses but it does play a part in the equation. This one works as it should and I couldn’t even imagine trying to save a couple of bucks to go with a no-name one like I did last time and nearly fried my drive. This is a winner.

Excellent external ssd enclosure; easy to insert ssd drive, powered up with no problems. Well designed, just what is needed for failing laptops and continue to use hard drive files for functional work. Good value, recommend highly.

Jedyne plusy: Obudowa wygląda solidnie, a jakość wykonania — zarówno na zewnątrz, jak i wewnątrz — jest zauważalna. Beznarzędziowy montaż jest bardzo prosty (choć ma też swoje wady, o czym poniżej). Być może dla kogoś podniosłoby to ocenę do dwóch gwiazdek, ale nie dla mnie. Już przy pierwszym użyciu zauważyłem, że dołączony kabel USB rozłącza urządzenie przy nawet najmniejszym ruchu (może po prostu trafił mi się wadliwy egzemplarz, więc użyłem innego kabla wysokiej klasy), ale to był dopiero początek problemów. Urządzenie co jakiś czas samoistnie odłącza się od systemu. Podczas operacji na plikach doprowadziło to do uszkodzenia tablicy partycji. Zauważyłem też, że dołączony termopad jest za cienki i nie styka się z żadnym z moich dysków NVMe M.2 (Intel Optane 1TB, Samsung Pro 990 2TB, Samsung Plus 990 1TB, Crucial P3 1TB). Ponieważ brakuje tu oddzielnego radiatora, temperatura wewnątrz jest zbyt wysoka — to właśnie wada konstrukcji beznarzędziowej. Co prawda mieści się ona jeszcze w granicach normy, ale... zastosowany chipset to RTL9210, który jest powszechnie znany z awaryjności, zwłaszcza przy wysokich temperaturach. Inny chipset, lepszy termopad lub dodatkowa płytka radiatora rozwiązałyby problem. Spędziłem 3 dni na profesjonalnym odzyskiwaniu danych z uszkodzonej partycji, korzystając z moich pozostałych obudów topowych marek — nie było żadnych problemów. Dodałbym zdjęcia, ale byłem zbyt pochłonięty ratowaniem danych. Analiza: Technicznie obudowa trzyma parametry. Przyczyna nagłego rozłączania - urządzenie podczas pracy (kopiowania) przechodziło w sleep mode, co nie powinno mieć miejsca - to kolejna wada tego kapryśnego chipsetu.
