I think the product has its place and appears very sturdy. It shipped fast and arrived fine. I would like to see a longer latch that would attached to a smaller post (2/38) but had a 4” longer latch . Right now the latch just barely covers the larger spread of the larger post. Planning on carefully welding a longer bit so that would be intruders cannot pull this latch through the post and therefor making the security worthless. Also, please make the hole for the lock, accommodate a larger lock

Great for are fence

Sizing was accurate, it installed fine. I used a couple washers under the nut, but these are not supplied with the latch. Mine looks terrible, some of the roughest sand cast pot-metal that I have seen for hardware. The galvanizing finish (if its that) is totally uneven. It could just have silver paint on it. Time will tell if it rusts away. I installed it anyways, getting tired of the junk quality of items, but I'm not willing to spend a fortune on something with only one moving part. Speaking of that part, the pivot pin is VERY cheap and flimsy, and the fork has lots of play. Once it fails (should be soon), I'll put a properly sized solid pin in place of the undersized rivet.

It is not easy to find a latch that mates a steel gate to a wooden post. I am not sure why it says "Malleable" since this will not budge at all. I had to shave a bit off my posts as there as no way to bend these even a tiny bit wider...they are that tough. But depending on the application, they can be mounted regular or upside-down. The upside down mounting works if you don't have enough clearance between the gate and post, the latch will free-fall when locking, and then all you need is something to stop the travel (a screw, piece of wood, etc). Hard to explain I realize, but this worked great, even on my gates that were right up against the post. I just mounted it upside-down on the upper corner of the gate, and added a "stopper" on the post. The included bolt is the only potential downside to this latch, since it is a standard bolt, but custom bent. Thankfully, the bolt is very heavy duty and plenty of threads that I was able to put a great deal of force on it to keep it attached, without the bolt giving up. Really glad they make something like this. I never found another.

I used this for a gate that was in an oilfield welded-pipe fence on the farm. I was rally concerned about getting one that would fit, and this one worked perfectly.
