My ram 1500 uses pag 46 oil. i need to flush the system, draw a vacuum & recharge it. any reason why i should avoid ester & use pag46 for lubricant?

Yes, avoid ester oil. If you are sure your truck uses r134a and PAG 46, it’s best to use what is specified. I think ester oil is equal to a 100 weight oil. I ordered ester oil because my system was converted from r12 to r134. After further research on the compressor, it called for PAG 46. Also important is how much oil and how much refrigerant to add. Too much or too little of either and you will have lower performance and/or premature failure of gaskets and possibly the compressor too.
