4 Keys to Hearing God's Voice

Is this a life-chaning book? For me, Yes!
When I first looked at this book I read a lot of the reviews (most of which said it was "life-changing", "excellent" or similar). I thought, "Yeah, right. I've seen similar reviews for other books that were boring, inconsistent and/or written by a person who liked to hear (see) themselves talk." Then I started reading this book. This book truly is a life-changer...if you let it be. Dr. Virkler not only uses experiences from his own journey, but inserts the writings of other people whom he has taught this method to.Personally, I have always considered my prayer life different than to how I was taught. I have prayed to YHWH as though He was standing next to me, as my Father. Thus, most of my prayers have always been conversational, many times short and several throughout the day. The responses I would receive were typically short phrases or single words. The key piece that I was missing was writing. The responses I now receive are anywhere from short phrases to several pages in length. Once I get done writing I go back and read what I wrote as a whole. It's truly amazing at what I'm being shown. It's even getting to the point where there is one or two phrases that I hear when Abba wants to speak with me. The last piece, or key, of what the book teaches - vision - I am just now reading about. I may update my review later to include aspects of this. But I'm hoping this will encourage someone to purchase the book. The one thing that continues to throw me for a loop about this book is what one might consider "new agey" terminology. Please, PLEASE do not think that Dr. Virkler and his wife are of New Age beliefs. He uses the phrase "tune to flow" A LOT throughout the book. IMHO, I believe that was the best adjective to use to describe to get the idea of what happens across to the reader. I have thought about how I would describe the same ideas, and coming up with a single word or short phrase, and have yet to come up with something that isn't similar. This is because you're not just hearing or seeing, but both, on top of receiving thoughts and images. You're using the eyes and ears of your heart, as well as that of your mind.Once I finish the book, each member of my family will go through it. Rather than us go through it as a family, I decided it best for each of us to go through it individually, as that is how this book was written. When we all get done, I am hoping to get the resources to lead a group study.

Very Practical and helpful
I am really enjoying this book. It is given me some practical insight. I haven't finished it yet, but with the years of training I have, I have never really got to the point of hearing God's voice, and I feel with what I have read so far, that this is balanced and practical. I feel the author is also concerned about checking with others, and not just saying you heard from God and running off to do what ever, but to ask for Guidance from 2 or 3 others, and waiting for God to confirm it. I think it is a very practical book with practical safe guards, so far, I am in the section of writing in journal style. Hoping to learn more as I go along.

clear explanations of how hearing from God is not a New Age phenomenon, but is rooted in Scripture
Years ago I began writing letters to God and receiving answers from God through journaling. This process helped me learn to hear and recognize the voice of God without the aid of writing. But eventually, I encountered Christians who insisted that God doesn’t speak today and that if I was hearing God’s voice, I needed to see a psychiatrist. Well, when enough people made comments like that, I began to fear I had fallen into heresy or something so I backed away from the practice. That sent me on the slippery slope of backsliding and the voice of God became a distant memory. I no longer had access to the God who loved me, encouraged me, and guided me through the difficulties of life.A few weeks ago, someone encouraged me to take this Bible course on 4 Keys to Hearing God’s Voice. I was reluctant at first because so many people had shamed me into forsaking the practice, but once I delved into the pages of the text, I found myself at home once again. As I began to converse with God through two-way journaling, I felt my spirit revive.Mark Virkler’s teaching provides a firm biblical foundation for the practice of hearing God’s voice. Through this affirmation, I was able to wash away the shame I felt from those who scolded me about hearing from God. The book also gives clear explanations of how hearing from God is not a New Age phenomenon, but is rooted in Scripture and all through history until rationalism came to reign supreme over supernatural interventions. For those who are new to the practice, Mark Virkler offers four simple explanations of how to hear God’s voice. The book also contains prompts to help you get started in your two-way conversations with God.If you would like to learn to hear God’s voice for yourself, I encourage you to read 4 Keys to Hearing God’s Voice. This review, along with additional book quotes, first appeared on my blog, ChristyBower.com.

This book is for anyone who desires to improve your quality of relationship with God.
This is an excellent book. I have recommended it to several friends including one who has worked in prison ministry for many years. She felt it was an excellent resource. It is not a deep book, for example like Watchmanee. I wouldn't even say it is medium deep. This is a simple to read and understand, practical book for people of all ages no matter how long one has been walking with God. This book was recommended to me by a dear friend who has been walking with the Lord for over thirty years. Her testimony is that it has increased her closeness to God. Highly recommend.

This is one of the best books I have read concerning the understanding of God's word. It is a lot of information so I'm sure I will have to read it more than once. The books makes me want to study the bible more than ever. I wish that there was a book like this 20 years ago. I have read several books in the past years but this one is making me yearn for more knowledge. This book has just what God wants us Christians to know. Precise and as perfect as I can imagine. The author has written about 60 books, who does that? Truly inspiring.

A very encouraging read.
A very encouraging read which is both an informative and engaging read.I recommend it highly as it really opens your eyes to the truth that Hod can,and does, speak to us far more often and readily than we have imagined or realised. It helps you to practice his presence, listen and dialogue.

The 4 Keys work!
I abandoned the book in favour of Mark’s online course on the same subject, which was really good. Going through the audio for the course brought the message home for me quicker than the book could have. I have now started hearing God more (following Mark’s 4 Keys) and it’s pretty exciting!

Almost put off by the title (I tend not to like 4 keys
I wouldn't say this very often but this was a life changing book. Almost put off by the title (I tend not to like 4 keys, 5 steps, 6 pointers titles) but I'm glad I got past that. Bought one for a friend and loaned mine already

Listening for Gods Voice
I read this after hearing Mark Virklers free podcasts on iTunes. Both excellent in helping to hear from God and explaining exactly how to go about this. I have since received dreams and been able to decode them which have really helped me with the parenting of my daughters.
