Yes you can. I use it in my boat and it holds a yeti can cooler perfect

Q: what is the inside circumference? does it hold can, bottle, or insulated size container?

I found that this can NOT hold a drink with a full sized coolie, but it can hold a drink with the slimmed down (thinner) version of those. However, I was able to bend the top wider apart to accommodate the larger type. You have to be careful doing this because the screw plate will also be bent unless you are careful in how you do this.
