Q: Theres a lot of conflicting advice on this page. As I have a 38 inch waist what size should I order please?

It all depends on where your waist is. I have a high waist I. E I have long legs and normal trousers are cut too low in the crutch and the waist falls where my bladder is. But I bought 34" essentials shorts and they fill well.

Q: Can these shorts be tumble dried please?

I have not done so myself, however, the label does say Tumble Dry Medium. Hope that helps.

Q: What are the inside leg measurements i am 6' 2" tall and like them just above the knee

I think they measure with your height .I am five feet four tall and mine are just above my knees
