Aggressive / Loud, Self Install
In a nutshell:Borla's ATAK is the most aggressive in their lineup. I installed this "over the axle" exhaust on my '08 Z06. The note is AWESOME and also VERY LOUD. A couple friends followed me through a tunnel while I accelerated aggressively. They agreed, "If it were any louder their ears would bleed." If you're looking for mild to moderate sound improvement for your Z06 or ZR-1, then this is probably not a good choice for you. However, if you're an enthusiast looking for the most aggressive and baddest sounding exhaust with that deep American rumble... then this item should be on your short list. See below for more detailed review info.Drone - This system does help greatly reduce the annoying drone from the OEM exhaust system. In my opinion the drone is reduced about 85%. BUT KEEP IN MIND!!! This is a loud exhaust. Although drone is nearly eliminated, when cruising on the highway you WILL still hear the note of the engine through the exhaust. Please do not confuse this with the annoying drone that seems to endlessly reverberate through the cabin. Compared to the OEM system I personally find it easier with the ATAK system to have a conversation while cruising at 70mph on the highway. But it's not silent. While cruising I also enjoy the note of the engine. If you prefer that note quelled it may be better to consider Borla's S-Type or Touring systems.Quality - Unfortunately I had to return the first system I received (-1 Star). The four tips were welded together EXTREMELY poorly. The tips were very crooked, rotated off center, uneven, etc. Please don't get the impression I'm a perfectionist measuring to the nearest 1/64 of an inch - that is certainly not the case. In my opinion, there is no way the first system I received should have made it out of the factory. Nonetheless the exchange was free to me and completely painless. Amazon shipped a new system (2 day delivery!) and paid for the return freight. A+++ for Amazon customer service. The replacement system I received was was pretty darn close to perfect.Installation - If you do not have a lift do not attempt to install yourself. In the photo you can clearly see Borla's system is split into two sections: The muffler section and the over the axle pipes. Each OEM muffler is ONE ASSEMBLY that goes over the rear axle. Without a lift one cannot get the car high enough to swing each OEM muffler assembly down / around the rear axle. If you insist on installing yourself WITHOUT a lift (like I did) you must cut off the OEM system. I created a "How To Install" guide. Check out the Z06Vette or Corvette forums to find my guide.Aesthetics - I do not care much for the appearance of the tips on this Borla system. I think many other aftermarket exhausts have better looking tips (including the OEM). Most of those systems are also more expensive. To be clear, the appearance isn't bad, but it is not as good as higher priced systems. Appearance was not a factor in my decision making. The sound fitting my tastes was the number 1 priority, and I liked this system best after listening to many other aftermarket systems.Popping / Crackling - With the OEM system you may notice some "popping" / "crackling" when letting off the gas pedal. The exhaust mid section on my Z06 is an "H-Pipe" which exacerbates this phenomena (later Z06's / ZR-1's have an "X-Pip" mid section that greatly reduces the popping). If you have an H-Pipe the popping will be MUCH more noticeable after installing the ATAK. Some people like the popping / crackling (sounds racy), some do not. PLEASE be aware of this before purchasing. For those of us with earlier Z06's and ZR-1's, Borla sells an X-Pipe. It can be ordered separately or with this ATAK exhaust as a set (search Borla 140422 to see the set).Final thoughts - After listening to the many exhausts available for the Z06 I determined Borla's sound best fit my taste. The system is very loud and SOUNDS AWESOME! If you like that deep American rumble and want to be heard before you're seen - the Borla ATAK would make a great addition to your Corvette Z06 or ZR-1. I think the poorly welded system was a rare misstep from Borla. And from what I've seen on the Corvette Forums, Borla's customer service appears to be top notch (although I've never had to work directly with them).Bottom Line:If you want that really loud American rumble for your Z06 or ZR-1 this is a great choice.

Once its on it sounds nice
I ordered this system before researching and seeing you can make extremely good power numbers through the stock exhaust. Hindsight 20/20 I probably don't get this. It is however a very nice sounding exhaust & definitely feels like the car is faster. We added supporting mods at the same time, so who knows what was added by just the exhaust.Install was NOT easy. I would HIGHLY recommend researching install on a z06 before tackling it yourself. My experience is decent with cars & many years ago was a tech. Typically you just drop the stock exhaust by disconnecting a few brackets and then pulling it out. This took hours & part of it was fitment of the exhaust & part was the car just being a beast to work on. You need to remove a decent amount of the rear suspension to get this off. You have to remove 2 of the sway bar bolts, drop 2 of the struts & work around an EVAP sensor. I'd recommend reading Corvetteforums or YouTube before tackling it yourself like I did. Some of the fitment issues were because the car was so tightly designed, but others were the exhaust themselves. The pipes from the exhaust that go over the rear suspension and connect to the headers did not have great fitment both on the end connecting with the American Racing Headers, which could be either manufacturer, or the end attaching to the mufflers of their own exhaust. When off the car the pipes slide into the mufflers easily, but you can't get a straight on angle while under the car which created the issue. It didn't help the driver side muffler inlet was dented, I'm assuming this was caused by shipping though and not Borla's fault. The instructions call for mounting the mufflers to the hangers and then feeding the pipes in. We could not accomplish it this way and had to use a jack to hold it in place, a bit lower than the hangers and then thread the pipes together.Overall I'm very happy with the sound and how it feels, but I would not attempt it again. I said originally I would keep my stock parts incase I wanted to go back to stock..........but after this headache its definitely not worth it to me haha.

Grinning from ear to ear!
I recently ordered and installed the Borla Atak on my 2008 Z06 and they are awesome! I agree with everything Eric said in his review, although the welds on mine were fine. What I like about the Borla exhaust is the higher pitch compared to say the Magnaflow exhaust, and having the h-pipe stock on my Z06, I do get the back pressure gurgle, snap and pop in between shifts and when decelerating. At first I was concerned they were too loud! In the middle lane taking off from a stop light they just echoed of the cars next to me and there's no real way to accelerate quietly. They've been on about a week and are starting to get carbon deposits in the chambers and the sound is a little, (very little) mellower, and when I get on it hard, they scream... love it! As for drone on the highway, the Borla guys did a great job controlling the resonance. After looking at the Corsa, B&B and MagnaFlow, I couldn't be happier with the Borla Atak exhaust. As the other review said, "This exhaust is the closest you can get to straight pipe exhaust as possible." Yes they are!!If these reviews don't convince you yet, check out the Borla's Bondurant C6 Corvette video on youtube that compares the three systems offered for the C6. Just note, the video doesn't do justice to how awesome these systems really do sound.I also have to give a thumbs up for the seller here. I ordered them with the standard 5-8 day shipping and they came in 3 days, well packaged with instructions.
