Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
This is one of the best PS(Playstation) games. Right along with games like "Finall Fantasy 7". Better than the "Tomb Raider" games(Also from Eidos). allthough it has some flaws(As every game does, it still is a very fun and very good game. It has good graphics, and voice acting, good music too.You play Raziel(if you read the editorial review you know all this), once a luitenant(not as in army rank, but kainda like right hand man sorta, second in command), to Kain, the vampire ruler, along with 5 others. However, Raziel than evolved and grew wings before Kain. Kain became jealois and furious and tore Raziel's wings, than through him into the lake, to be damned and burn for eternity(Water burns them). But then a spirit or something called the elder saves and ressurects Raziel to take revenge on Kain. There are two realms or worlds or planes, the spectre plane and the material plane. The material realm is just the normal world, the spectre realm is a twisted version of the material realm(Of course its the underworld/netherworld death place thing)You can switch between these realms whenever you wish, this can be a big help, as that might not be reachible in the material realm might be in the twisted spectre plane, or visa versa. There are alot of enamys to fight(Alot more than in tomb raider, wich seems like a walk in the park compared to this), and you need to fight enamys, atleast untill you get the soul reaver, because in the material realm your energy(Health) slowly runs out, and you need to consume the souls of your enamys. The fighting works like this; first you attack your enamys with normal attacks(Square button) untill they are stunned, than, before they recover, you must attack them with a fatal blow(Triangle button), they than die and there souls(Look like balls of blue light, or mini comets floating around) leave there bodys, you can then consume the souls before they go into the spectral realm(Were they will be if you go there). You have a large collection of weapons with wich to do this. Your bare hands, or claws:You first slash them than pick them up and through them into fire or water, sunlight or onto spikes on walls. You can burn them with torches, impale them on spear, OR, you have your ultiment weapon, the soul reaver(Basicly a sword of spiritual energy that you hit enamys with). You also have magic powers, or glyphs, these include powers like the shift Glyph(You start out with this, it allows you to go between Material and Spetre), Or stone or sunlight. There are alot of puzzles to figure out, however they can be chalenging(And get repetitive). The problems are: Some times Awkward camera angles, Often time no sense of direction, Puzzles can be chalenging(You will find yourself wandering about wondering what to do, very often)though that is not a magor flaw, The soul reaver turns off if you get only slightly hurt. But aside from those flaws, its a great game, don't listen to the negative reviews, all I have told you is what the game really is like, so order this game, or go out and buy it, you won't be sorry.

This is the game that started me on the franchise.
In a world where Vampires are always teen heart throbs and don't actually kill people *cough* Twighlight *cough*, one video game franchise emerges...The Legacy of Kain. Not only do you get to kill an s#&$ ton of monstrous vampire offspring, you take their souls and in doing so, absorb their powers. The playing field is unique because of your ability to travel between the physical world and the spectral world. Oh yea, did I mention that your guy is a f&#%ing ghost come back to life just because he's pissed that he died? Yea, that part is important. So you claw and stab your way through the remnants of your past until you get...The Soul Reaver! The most powerful weapon in the game and it never leaves your arm because it fuses to you. Also it makes people explode and you can set people on fire. In short, this game is dope. And the series just keeps getting better with such games as Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2, and the last game in the franchise so far, Legacy of Kain: Defiance

One of PS1 Best
I know this game gets mixed reviews since it branched off from the Legacy of Kain series, but as a kid this game shaped my world. Graphics are fantastic for its time, the cutscenes are even better. Gameplay can be a little redundant, but is still rewarding. The theme and story of this game are phenomenal, and the emotional depth is just riveting. I highly recommend this game. You may need a walkthrough for certain parts. I know I still do and I've played this game and finished it at least five times.

The Story
First game I ever played. Camera is rage inducing, easy to get lost (in the bad way) no loading screens which is good. If you play this you play for the story. All of the Legacy of Kain series is amazing as far as story, environmental design and atmosphere. Soul Reaver 2 is easier to play and better graphics but I am very happy to own this game.

Soul Reaver, and Reaver of Souls.
This product really shouldn't get 5 stars...it should get 10 stars!!!! This game is almost perfectly new! I took it out of the case(which was in grand condition) and took a look at the game, and by golly the disk didn't have one single scratch, blemish, or smudge!!! It was so well taken care of, it's amazing! The game plays great to a T, no glitches, no freezing, no dreaded five-seconds-of-death start up page, no nothing! It's great, and better than the one I had as a kid.

Great story and gameplay.
The sights and music is spot on and I personally like the PlayStation version over the Sega Dreamcast one and its not because I only played the PS version. I SEEN both versions and would've been disappointed if I had the Sega version because the PS one has that gloom and grimey look that fits the plot of the game. Razael also looks like a Marvel comic character on the Sega version. All in all, this is an engaging game. Its like Megaman meets vampires.

The game that possibly inspired Darksiders 2
If your looking for a good, action platformer for the ps1. Look no further, Soul Reaver is about a Vampire that was Betrayed by his Master due to his advancement which was seen as a threat. Now he's out for revenge in this Part 1 of 2 im the soul reaver series. This was one of the few games in the late 90s and early 2000s that was a playstation/N64 era game that had actual good voice acting.(back then that wasnt too common unfortunately.) very glad i got it for a good price.
