Cross Rhodes: Goldust, Out of the Darkness (WWE)

Well written and concise
I have read a fair number of professional wrestling autobiographies, and this is one that kept my interest. Dustin Runnels (Golddust) has a lot to say in very concise chapters. Perhaps casual wrestling fans might have wanted more 'road stories', but I found this an engaging summary of his entire career.I was watching Superstars of Wrestling back in the day when Dusty Rhodes introduced his son to the WWF. Ted Dibiase and Virgil beat up Dustin, with Dusty holding his bloody son yelling "Noooo!!". Great stuff. The introduction of Golddust actually kept me from watching the WWF during the 1990s, I stuck with WCW (and oddly enough, that meant watching his father instead). Golddust's later runs with Booker T were of course entertaining, and I think the fans let him know that he was beloved in their eyes.Maybe there won't be a 'Best of Golddust' DVD package, but Dustin is so descriptive in this book that I felt like I was watching the highlights of his career. His dark periods, all documented here, are interesting as well. He even manages to sneak in a mention of his younger brother at the end. Cody Rhodes is currently enjoying a huge run in the WWE, proving that when it comes to the hard work of the Rhodes family, there's always gold.

...about what I expected...good read.
I finished reading "Cross Rhodes" in just under a week. It's not a long, drawn out book, but it was definitely worth the time. This is the fifth autobiography I've read about "Sports Entertainers" and I have yet to be dissappointed. Dustin has been through good times and bad and shares them in a way that only he could. I especially liked the in-sight into him growing up around some of the old school guys and being shown how to do things from the very beginning. Pick it up and get a good look at the business from Dustin's eyes. Great read!

Iteresting but a little short
Being a huge fan of Goldust, I was very happy to receive this book. It showed a lot of information that the everyday fan might not have known. Of course I recommend it to others that are fans of his.The only complaint I have is that it was rather short in comparing it with the books of the Rock and Mick Foley.

Truth....Life....Goldust
A couple of weeks ago, I purchased my second book that had a wrestling-related theme. The first was Eric Bischoff's Controversy Creates Cash. But when one of my favorite Superstars of all time put a book out, I had to get that as well. Goldust (aka Dustin Runnels aka Dustin Rhodes aka The Natural) wrote about reality. About life as it is, not as it should be.He was truthful in everything he had to say. He came at Dusty Rhodes, his father, but explained in a way that you can tell came from love and not hate. When he talked about Dusty he was angry, but it was constructive anger. But more importantly it was truth. It was truth about the wrestling industry. What it does to families. What it does to individuals.Beyond the stories about his father, Dustin tells his story about how he came into the wrestling industry. What it meant to him to be a part of it and crediting greats like Dusty Rhodes and Barry Windham for his successes. He talks about the Vince we don't see. How Vince gives chances but also makes sure that you get him and his thinking. But the telling story in the book focuses on Dustin's struggles. Alcohol and pain killers being his main vices, he talks about how it affected every part of his life and how he overcame his struggles. He talked about how the WWE is willing to lend a hand to help out with addiction. If there is one book I suggest you get, it's this one. Even if you are not a wrestling fan, it is awe-inspiring. It's eye opening. But most of all it's truth....it's life. Thank you Mr. Runnels for sharing your life. And Congrats for a job well done!Bob Lendzinski[...]

Goldust confronts his struggles, a great read
While some reviews say it could've been better, I found it fascinating as it gave me (us) a look inside of Dustin's life in his words. We may have heard some of the stories before but I thoroughly enjoyed his honesty as he dealt with his troubles. Well done Dustin Runnels!

Realistic to the bone
Sehr ehrliche Wrestler-Biographie, die zeigt, wie schnell man ganz unten sein kann, aber auch wie es gelingen kann, seine inneren Dämonen zu besiegen. Es war eine große Freude. Danke Dustin Rhodes
