The 4000 has a fixed flame for HIGH. I mostly use the 8000 on high, but it is sometimes nice to be able to dial it back to a small, gentle flame. I’d get the 8000 unless $20 extra matters. **Q: Any idea how long a burn you'd get with a single tank?** A: depends on what you are burning, I melt gold on maybe a quarter tank for say ten minutes, so basicly you have to know your metal and how to work it. other metals take less time because the intense heat is not required as gold melts at 1100 to 1200c. **Q: does this tourch have a 2 stage switch? meaning can you press down partially to let the gas flow and then all the way down to get the spark.** A: It does. And so you know, it's called a momentary switch. **Q: Can i melt metal with this?
