We bought 2 of these exact kits from a big box retailer and after 2 years both have rusted near the base and one of them started leaking in a recent heavy rain storm. Looking to replace both of mine with galvanized vents.

Q: Is this cap made of aluminum or galvanized steel?

It is not aluminum. I put a magnet on it and It did stick so it could be steel. It is painted so I don't know if it is galvanized.

Q: Has anyone had issues with snow piling up too high and blocking the vent? it seems to have a low profile. i live in new england with low pitched roof.

If you use it regularly the warm house air will melt any snow. The flap is protected by the top so even if covered the warm air would escape and melt the snow.

Q: Is this for venting a range hood for a stove?

Thank you for your question on the model RVK1A roof venting kit. This kit includes a roof cap for 3" or 4" ducting. We do not manufacture a range hood that uses a 3" or 4" duct size. This is designed for use with a bathroom exhaust fan. We would also recommend using rigid, metal duct when ventilating a range hood.
