Urdu is the national language and lingua franca of Pakistan and one of the official languages of India. It is the first language of about 70 million people and is spoken by over 230 million people worldwide. Urdu is a part of the Hindustani language family, and is mutually intelligible with Hindi. Using the Nasta’liq style of the Persian alphabet, Urdu is traditionally associated with the Muslim population of the region, while Hindi (using the Devanagari script) is connected with the Hindu community. Visitors to Islamic holy cities, such as Mecca, will find signage in Arabic, Urdu, and English. Ideal for businesspeople, travelers, and students, this dictionary includes: 20,000 dictionary entries, complete with Urdu script and transliteration Phonetics that are intuitive for English speakers Easy-to-use alphabet and pronunciation sections Review: More than a simple dictionary, it provides example sentences - A well-done dictionary with good examples using the words. Review: OK resource, but there are mistakes and the print is too small - This dictionary is OK, and there admittedly aren’t many choices. It has a number of problems though. The script is too small, making the Urdu hard to read. It also, frustratingly, does not give the gender of Urdu nouns when you look them up from English, so you have to look them up again in the Urdu section to find the gender. I have also found at least three mistakes - it gives ‘ankura’ instead of ‘ankur’ and it had the wrong genders for ‘sarhad’ and ‘salgira.’ There is also at least one headword which was printed ‘insert headword’ instead of the actual headword. All in all, it’s been an OK resource, but I probably would advise looking for something else.

Let the buyer beware
There is no "grammar section", despite what is claimed in the description. The English - Urdu side has about 33 entries per page. The positive aspect is that there are synonyms provided on both sides. No doubt this is still one of the few Urdu dictionaries out there that include transcription throughout.
