Yes, you can add more as needed! Ours arrived very full which was nice! There is also a zipper cover which can be washed! After a year, it has held up well!

Q: Does the cover keep sweat out of the interior? Washing the cover wont work if sweat gets inside the bag itself...

No, the cover is not waterproof or even resistant. But after my dog peed on it we put a waterproofing sheet for the bed around the inner bag and the cover over that, so now the inner part is safe from dog pee and sweat for that matter.
