DK Veg in One Bed: How to Grow an Abundance of Food in One Raised Bed, Month by Month

Great read for the enthusiastic but knowledge limited grower!
We have been growing our own vegetables in raised beds for the last 2 years. We live in the west of Scotland and have less sun and more rain. We don't have a glass house to grow seedlings. We've learnt alot over this time and alot of it has been learnt by trial and error. Previous books provide some guidance, so do experienced friends and of course...Monty :)! We think this book adds alot to our basic information because we are not greenfingers in any shape or form! Sometimes you do need something to be a bit prescriptive and tell you exactly what to do, WHEN to do it and in what order. This is what this book is good for. It appreciates that lots of us are city folkies with limited space but wanting to do the best with what we have. We've had pretty good crops of beans, peas, kale, spinach, salad leaves, carrots, onions, garlic, chives, courgettes, potatoes, blueberries and raspberries this season but we're looking forward to next year with a much better plan in our heads! Recommended reading.Update: The enforced isolation and the remarkably good weather means we've spent many hours this week on the raised beds. Fingers crossed we'll have a great harvest. Stay safe everyone!

Perfect for beginners or for those who are overwhelmed by GYO!
This is my 3rd year at attempting to grow veg. Year 1 and 2 I tried to grow everything- too many things and I didn’t have enough time to commit to it. I sowed at the wrong time, transplanted too late.. oh all sorts of desperate attempts that came out rubbish! I’m just finishing studying RHS level 2 and know lots now - but in my busy life as a carer my fascination isn’t enough to bring any anything I’m happy with. I needed a basic guide to follow because I don’t have the time to work out all the sowing times, where and how to sow, spacings, what size bed, how and when to harvest. I’m growing on my own with no help on an allotment and it can be hard on my own with no one to bounce off or help out. And so.... this book is absolutely perfect for me. I just need a basic bed, a basic plan telling me what to do when. This book keeps it simple. I have been watching Huw’s videos and there is a lot of extra info on his you tube channel. He is really down to earth, inspiring, intelligent, positively inspiring and warm person in book and video. If you have never tried to grow your own I honestly believe you can start with just this one book. I can’t wait to taste some amazing organic home grown food (19 from the one bed over the course of a year)! Yes the book is how to grow organically too! Amazing considering he is so young. Thanks Huw. Honestly this will help me keep well in so many ways!

I've been gardening for over 40 years and still learnt new things in this book!
This book is easy to use, with clear and straightforward explanations of any technical terms. It shows how to make a raised bed and then gives a month by month guide of what to sow, transplant and harvest, there's a bit of info about diseases and pests and tons of information that's really accessible. The full colour photos are lovely and the illustrations are really clear. While it is very much aimed at novice gardeners, even this old girl learnt a few new tricks!

I’m an old hand and I love it
Great tips in here. Not intimidating and really encouraging. I’m a fairly experienced veg gardener and discovered Huw on YouTube. It’s one of my fave channels and this book is great. Already made some muddy marks on it and I only got it this morning. Always a good sign!
