Swisher 19920 Commercial Pro ATV Spreader, Opaque

If you have been looking for a high quality and well designed spreader to mount on the rear rack of your ATV, this is the one to buy. I have it mounted on the rear rack of my Yamaha Grizzly 550 and I am very satisfied with it. I used it for the first time today to fertilize about 6 acres of lawn and it worked like a champ. One small knob was missing when I assembled this spreader, but all it took was one quick phone call to Crystal in the Swisher Customer Service Department and she had the part sent right out to me. I found the power wire included in the kit that connects between the spreader motor and the ATV battery was about 3 feet too short for my installation. The quick fix was to splice in (2) - 36" sections of wire with crimp connectors, but I would highly recommend to Swisher to manufacture this wire "pigtail" at least 3 feet longer to further improve their product. The last thing I learned when applying fertilizer today is that the fertilizer granules must be dry with no clumps like you will see with old bags of fertilizer that has gotten wet. I dropped each bag of fertilizer on my garage floor several times before pouring it into the hamper and the spreader worked like a champ with no clogging. I did buy a Buyer ATV Spreader to start with and found it to be a very poorly designed piece of junk. I promptly returned it, bought the Swisher spreader and could not be happier with it as it is very well designed and all components are of a very high quality. One final comment for those of you with Polaris ATV's that have composite racks, Swisher even includes special mounting plates in this kit for those types of racks.UPDATE: I've used this spreader for 3 seasons now and I'm not as happy with it as I was when I wrote my original review and I have reduced my rating from 5 stars to 2 stars. Even though I've always used dry fertilizer this spreader often times does not spread uniformly resulting in streaks of dark and light green in my grass. I don't know if that is caused by the lack of an agitator in the bottom of the hopper or the design of the throwing wheel, but the fertilizer granules often times get clogged up in the bottom of the hopper. Due to the amount of frustration this spreader causes me when trying to fertilize my large yard, I can not recommend it in it's current design.

The unit is built heavy duty. I changed all the nuts and bolts to stainless. The thing would plug up with more than a few pounds of fertilizer if the gate is set for a slow delivery. I added a motorized stir rod to the lid that reaches the bottom to keep the fertilizer from gumming up. The spinner plate does not work well so I removed the swirl portion and replaced with four stainless right angle plates. The spinner also ran way too fast so I added a d.c. speed controller to reduce the r.p.m. and now have more control over the throw distance. The gate handle also tends to vibrate open or closed on it's own when driving over anything but perfectly smooth ground. The gate stop mechanism is rather crude and is difficult to set and calibrate. You have to open and close a number of times to set it so you better not have any product in it because it will be everywhere.The spreader now performs much better and even with all it's flaws is still a cut above the rest considering it's price.

purchased this and assembled as instructed by the directions. But when used it, it did not spread the seed as indicated. Studied on it a little and discovered the disc spreader was rotating counter clockwise. Called Swisher and they suggested to switch the wiring on the battery just the opposite as I had it connected. I did and now it throws the seed clockwise and efficiently. The color of the wiring was applied incorrectly at the factory. But working thru this with Swisher was easy. Do examine the rotation of the disc spreader before load up your seed. Another happy customer. Ohio

This is very well built however it doesn't sling the material very far... even with it adjusted wide open. I think it's because its because the spinning plate is a spiral design instead of a "+" shape.

Our cabin was broken in to and it was stolen before we could use it unfortunately 🥵

I bought this unit to spread fertilizer and grass see on my 2 acre lot. Worked excellent. Instructions on how to put it together were easy to follow. Would reccomond this product.

Somewhat disappointed in this speader after reading many of the reviews touting its features. I have used this to spread fertilizer and lawn seed, both which have had a less than desirable pattern. I am a certified applicator, so I am very familiar with calibration and application equipment and this falls short. Spreader throws material at least 50% heavier to one side making it very hard to judge an effective swath. I found it beneficial to spray a light oil or wd-40 on bottom slide gate during storage to keep function working properly with corrosive material such as salt or fertility.

works well, spreads rock salt better than some others I've tried. a little tricky to get together, would have gave it 5 stars if the deflector were bigger.

THe mounts were way too short to fit on my Arctic Cat 700 rear utility frame. I had to spend a lot of time drilling the mount it came with in order to use the useless little clamps. Otherwise this thing is outstanding. Really made the work of planting the 20 acres of food plots a breeze!
