Disappointed, returning
Really disappointed in this book after the massive hype John has been given it on Instagram.Firstly after pre ordering and having it be delivered 11 days late to then find out you can pick it up from Tesco sooner and cheaper is a bit off. Preorders should be prioritised.Secondly, the first 60 pages are stories about Johns life which is not what I’d expect to see in a cook book.Thirdly, these meals are on average 400 calories each. If you can only consume say 1,200 calories a day you have no wiggle room for tea or coffee for instance. You can find great healthy meal ideas from BBC Good food that are lower in calories and cheaper!Fourthly, I can’t find recipes that you have recently posted on Instagram in the book?Fifth, why only a 21 day meal plan and not 28?Six, only 80 meal ideas?Sad to say that I am returning and will not be supporting John with his book this time. It’s been too hyped up for very little. You can fine cheaper lower calorie recipes that can also be bulk cooked and frozen as essentially that’s all you are doing for free elsewhere.

Not for vegetarians
Just received the book and ran through all of it. In the Instagram lives they said that the book had 30 vegetarian recipes in, whilst I haven’t actually counted it seems the bulk of the veggie recipes are the breakfast, smoothie and soup recipes and not really main meals.I was instantly disappointed as I am not looking for a liquid veggie diet. Whilst the meat recipes can be substituted to be veggie I would then have to count my own kcals and macros which is extra time and the flavour profile won’t be the same.I agree with what others have said, the pics could have included more meal prep containers and there was no need to lots in intro at the start of the book.Another book to stay in the cupboard it seems.

Good book...but some recipes need tweaking
I have made quiet a few of the recipes from this book and all have been delicious, the fish pie needs a bit of tweaking, as the recipe says 200g of potatoes, that’s just 1 and half small potatoes to cover a fish pie for two people, and it’s not enough, but after adding a bit more potato it was delicious, I politely pointed this out to John on Instagram as I thought it might be a printing error, and he replied with a voice message that I felt was very defensive and a bit arrogant, he said the recipes have been checked by 3 nutritionists and 5 different ‘Top Chefs’ and so any problems with measurements is usually ‘user error’ ...Hmm 🤔 nope it definitely says 200g of potato (I can see other reviewers have mentioned measurements too) so I’m afraid I can only give the book 4 stars ...it’s still one of my favourite recipe books though, even if I’m no longer a fan of John lol.

Disappointing but ok if you’ve never tried meal prep or counting calories before
This was not what I was expecting after the first two ebooks. I actually prefer the recipes in the ebooks to ones in the book. There’s so much unnecessary waffle at the beginning of the book and it really set the tone for me. After all the hype it just felt really flat for me.If you only plan to have 3 large meals a day then it works. But if you’re a grazer like me then I would need split the meals in half or spend time playing around with the calories to make it work. The meals are quite high calorie. This wasn’t what I thought I would be getting and sadly I’ll be returning the book. Also my book came slightly damaged.

Lots of variety
The book is great, lots of variety and clear instructions, it’s nice to see a variation in the portions some for 2, some 4 and more. Can’t wait to try some of the dinner recipes, currently taking a break from meal prep as it drains me but we are still following the recipes and eating better.Nice that it includes the sweet treats as well, looking forward to making the blueberry and lemon cake and the white chocolate raspberry muffins, although they will be an occasional treat as they are 200kcal + a serving. However, I now regret purchasing both books due to the authors social media posts! Just because you’ve got stuff going on in your private life there is no need to be so rude to people who are lining your pockets with money!Disgusted at the fact he’s a public figure and his posts are vile, just because someone messaged him about reheating something…they may have been new to cooking, you branding them an idiot on your social media isn’t on.I Won’t be purchasing anything from the TMPK brand again….
