The LD01 is one of my favorite lights
The LD01 is one of my favorite flashlights, and I own many. Why do I like this tiny light so much?- It's super lightweight. Even with a battery fitted you can put it in a small pocket and you won't even notice that it's there. This is not true of most larger lights.- It's reliable. An LED bulb that won't break if dropped or burn out (for years), as well as a twist-to-operate mechanism that is simple and not prone to failure like some button operated lights. It's also water proof so you can use it without worry in the rain.- Quick to charge. Okay, it doesn't actually have a charging feature, but if you use low self-discharge rechargeable batteries (like Eneloops) they hold their charge for a long time and with a decent charger you can recharge them in virtually no time.- Decently bright. Okay, 72 lumens isn't going to blow anyone away and the light is more flood than throw, but when you need to see to go up an alley or some stairs in the dark, this has you covered. [If you need a serious light for camping/hiking/caving/the great outdoors this is not it.] The light starts in "medium" output mode which is reasonable for most purposes, but if you're looking for something that comes on in low so you don't disturb a partner at night you may find better alternatives.- Long runtime. This light is very efficient and its power is regulated, which means it can run on low output mode for a really long time if you get caught in an unexpected situation and need to be aware of your surroundings. Cheaper lights won't do this, they will come on bright and quickly fade. The LD01 will be pretty consistent until it runs out of power.I use my LD01 all the time, and when I lost it recently I ordered another the same day without hesitation, even though they are a little on the pricey side IMO. Tip: Use the included metal clip to avoid replicating my mistake! It's tough to attach but once it's on it's great quality and keeps your LD01 firmly attached.I would definitely recommend this light as something that is easy to carry and has a lot of practical uses, even if you already own bigger, brighter lights.

Fantastic light, but could be more so
The is a fantastic pocket/key-chain flashlight, possibly the best available. Here's a great recent comparison:[...]. I only give it four starts because there's so much room for improvement:- It's too big. There are similar lights which are 9mm shorter, and lights which are 2mm narrower.- It should be compatible with 3V rechargeable 10440 LiON batteries, which would double runtime, and enable a much brighter turbo-mode.- Why hassle me with three brightness modes, rather than continuous brightness selection as I turn the head?- Turbo mode could be far far brighter... at least 200 luminsFirst, this light could be smaller. There's wasted room next to the reflector that could easily fit all the electronics. The lanyard tail on this light, which I don't even use, is about 4mm. Combined, I see nearly 1cm of length that could be trimmed. The stainless steel version uses the same metal thickness, which causes the weight to be more than double that of this light. A stainless steel version should be 10-20% thinner, similar to the Klarus MiX6, and not significantly heavier.Second, it's crazy not to support 10440 LiON batteries. They store 3X more energy than the NiMH enloop rechargeable batteries people use with this light. The electronics should be upgraded to support a wider input voltage range.Third, why not provide continuous brightness selection? When the head is screwed on tight, it should be off, and when I unscrew the head, it should get brighter. Think of the Maglite Solitare functionality, but rather than adjusting focus, it should adjust brightness. As I said, there's room for the electronics in the wasted space, so I don't accept the premiss that such functionality would make the light bigger. Also, in a $40 light, I don't accept that the electronics would be too expensive. The 72 lumin maximum is a reasonable value with 1.2V batteries, but if I just want to impress a friend, why not go brighter? The Cree XP-G R5 LED is rated at 260 lumins at 700mA. Some rechargeable 10440's can deliver 700mA, and with 80% efficiency, you could put out 200 lumins. Why not measure the LED heatsink temperature, and dim the light only to keep it acceptably cool? That would provide a huge "wow" factor. It would blow people away. So, Fenix built a fantastic light with the LD-01 R4, but there's much room for improvement!

Nice size, doesn't always switch modes
Carried daily for over 2 months now. Will continue to - until something better comes along.Pros: Great pocket-sized light and - because it is so portable - it stays on my keychain and I find uses for it daily. Seems of durable construction. Uses AAA batteries. Excellent light output for a diminutive light (esp med and high modes).Cons: Twist-style switch works best for me using two hands. In hindsight, would probably prefer rear mounted push switch. Intermittently, have encountered times where switch does not switch modes properly. Twisting on-off rapidly to switch sometimes results in the same mode or light doesn't stay on. Perhaps pocket lint gets in there somehow. Fiddling a bit with the twist bezel usually results in the problem clearing itself, so I'd characterize it as an occasional nuisance.Overall, I'm satisfied with this Fenix as a highly portable, cost-competitive mini light for EDC.

I bought three Fenix models based on good reviews. All three somehow induce corrosion of batteries
I am staying away from Fenix from now on. This is the only flashlight that attracts corrosion of batteries (good quality Duracell batteries). I bought three Fenix models based on good reviews. All three somehow induce corrosion of batteries. Other brands, ones that cost a fraction of the Fenix models, do not cause corrosion of batteries. I guess Fenix is a newer company in terms of flashlight design. They don't really have too much experience in technical details. Their flashlights are quite bright but unfortunately do not last.

Bought 01/18/12, Failed 04/22/12
When I purchased this flashlight it was pretty amazing. The output is very good for such a small flashlight. The only problem is that two of the light settings do not work now (the dimmest and the second most bright one). It is still good if you want a bright light.
