Greenlee62PTS-3/4 Nail Eater Extreme Shorty Auger Bit, 3/4-Inch

I honestly have no idea why someone would spend the kind of money they are asking for these bits knowing that thousands of others brands are made in the same place for much cheaper. I bought these because I was under the impression that Greenlee made stuff domestically, and the price seemed to confirm it. Don't make my mistake. Just go to HF if you don't care where things are made and save yourself the money.

I'll have to admit to really abusing this bit. I drilled repeatedly into a wooden post sunk in concrete that I was trying to destroy. The tip and the sides of the bit frequently hit the concrete while I worked. I actually thought I would ruin the bit but the darn thing didn't even dull! I've used Greenlee Nail Eaters for years and they're great for nail hits but I never thought one would survive what I did this time. I also tried my abuse on one of their longer 1.25" augers but couldn't damage that one either.

This bit works great for drilling holes to run pipe, electrical wire or whatever you desire. However it does not eat nails, but it does stays sharp after hitting one. I found a nail to day for the first time with this bit and it nearly broke my wrist, but it continued working for many more holes, and is still going strong. In my opinion this bit is well worth the price.

This is not my first purchase of this drill bit but may have to be my last. I use these daily on job sites so having to replace them every couple months is not a big deal. Just received a brand new one today and right out of the package it looks like whatever machining tool used to make it broke while milling this bit and left huge burn mark and a chunks of the tip missing. I get it, mistakes happen, but why let this get packaged and sold?

I have been drilling wood framed homes for over 30 years with a corded drill. These are the best bits I’ve ever used for that purpose. Obviously you should try to avoid nails but when you hit one it’s not game over for this bit

The name says it all, these things really do eat nails. Working in a lot of remodeling on old houses where nails pop up in the most unexpected places, these bits chew through it all with little hesitation.
