An actual solid block of alum!
This is the fourth block from the fourth company I've ordered from and, despite customers stating most of the others were solid alum blocks, as opposed to compressed alum particles, only one other, much smaller block truly was solid. And it cost more than this one.I shave my head daily with a double-edged safety razor and even though there is little to no razor burn, there are occasional nicks and weepers.Moistening the block with cold water and applying it to my wet dome stops the bleeding and kills the bacteria that can cause blocked pores and ingrown hairs. It's a good sized block and, being a truly solid block, has no rough edges or crystals to aggrivate an already scraped skull (or face). And because it's solid, it'll last as long as three compressed blocks. If you're serious about grooming, this is the alum block to get.Mind you, the shipping speed is lackluster at best, but worth the wait.

best alum block I have found
I have experienced two types of alum blocks. The first, and cheapest, is the pressed block. This typically has air bubbles in the center. It can be slightly abrasive when the air bubbles are reached, and can then disintegrate. Nonetheless, they work fine for a fairly long time. The second, is the solid block with no air bubbles. It tends to be smoother and probably lasts longer as it doesn't disintegrate when the bubbles are reached because there are no bubbles This alum block is the second, solid bar type cut from a block rather than pressed. I consider it to be superior to the pressed blocks. It is a good size. Some of the solid blocks cost twice as much as this one, but I can't see how they could be ay better. This is the second one I bought. Like any alum block, it will shatter if you drop it. I double wrap a thick rubber band around one end so it is easier to hold onto. Good product, good price. By the way, if you have never used an alum block to shave do yourself a favor and try it.

Great size block very smooth and looks like a great choice !
This is the first time using this brand but I doubt my last! I use alum blocks after shaving to calm down my sensitive skin. I still have a styptic pencil if I nick myself while shaving so I think both have their place in a shave den. This block looks very solid and smooth and if it holds up like I think it will then this will be my new brand of choice!Edit 4-16-20; I have been using this brand alum block now for almost 3 years and I get just about a year on one block. I can not say enough good things about Barbaro Alum Blocks. They are solid alum (not ground and re-constituted) and that makes a ton of difference in a the positive. These blocks hold together and work great until you use them up or drop them. A Great product and with a good price to go with it ~! DE Shave Talk with Kit
