OKUMAFishing Rod

Purchased the Okuma GSP for Great Lakes Steelhead fishing on a well known tributary in the Midwest. The rod handled two wild (non-hatchery) lake-run Steelhead flawlessly. The rod looks good, handles fish well, and casts a mile. Paired the rod with a Pflueger President and Power Pro braid. #10 mono leader to #8 fluorocarbon with float and bead rigs. Overall, great value for the money!

Somehow the first piece of the rod busted through one of the corners of the box causing a little wear, but other than that the rod is just what I expected, I hope that the packaging they use for someone else includes some bubble wrap.

I got the rod out of the box for 30 seconds and that garbage went right back in the box the bottom of the top section didn’t even look finished it was just bare graphite spider cracked about 3/4” up the blank. Garbage. On top of that 4 guides were all mangled and twisted. It was shipped in a 6’ box that was like 18”x18” and not a rod tube. With that being said the box was undamaged so it was 100% packed like that. I don’t believe it would have been tossed around hard enough to bend guides and crack the blank. Going on a steelhead trip at the end of the month and won’t be ordering another one. Straight garbage for 160$ going to order a Skain cane from blood run screw okuma

Awesome salmon/steelhead rod but don't buy it from Amazon! It doesn't take a genius to realize that a oversized box without padding isn't the best choice to ship a fishing rod in. Every other rod I've ordered from other companies come in a HD cardboard tube with ample padding. This isn't the first time I've had this problem but it will be the last. I'll never order another fishing rod from Amazon again!

I wanted to love this rod. Needed something new for steelhead so got this rod and a Okuma Ceymar C40 reel for a decent spinning set up for river fishing. Leaving for my trip tomorrow morning, won’t be taking this rod. You expect better for the price as I have $20 Shakespeare rods that have been rolled up in windows and run over and didn’t break. Grabbed the top eyelet to thread the line through and it snapped at the insertion point. Very disappointed. Will be sending back when I return.UPDATE. Received replacement rod, also broke during its first outing. Naturally, 14 days outside of the return window. These rods are complete garbage.

Have landed many steelhead and salmon. Works awesome
