Works great!
This hand lens has so far done exactly what it's supposed to do and does so with good quality. I would definitely recommend it for field work or a Geology lab.

Not the best, but still very good!
Very nice traditional Hastings Triplet loupe. For the money it has very good optics. Is it better than the Nikon 10x or Eschenbach 10x loupes -- definitely not. Sorry folks, but you get what you pay for! That is by no means a knock against this loupe. It's very small, compact and useful for quick views. The optics are fairly flat and of decent contrast.IMHO, it does rival the BelOMO 10x loupe but only in its optical clarity; however, it does not beat anything currently on the market in terms of light gathering ability. The BelOMO is very large and heavy compared to most 10x loupes. Its huge optical glass provides an incredible amount of light -- but at the cost of optical performance. The convex outer lens also means that your field is not flat. The center portion of the view will be sharp and in-focus; however, the outer half of the view will be out of focus. Price is also a possible concern. The BelOMO is slightly cheaper. The key decisions come down to how you value the optical performance versus size/weight and the BelOMO's low-light capability. The BelOMO is very large relative to most 10x loupes.IMHO, the Eschenbach 10x is the best in the 10x category followed by the Nikon 10x loupe. These are quite a bit more expensive than either the B&L or the BelOMO loupes but well worth it if optical performance is a must.

smaller than I expected

Too small
The lense itself is probably good however it is so small it takes too long to focus in on what I really want to see. May be fine for some.
