Why are you paying $300 plus for a thermostat?
Why are you paying $300 plus for a thermostat that can be controlled from your phone? The rules are: stay warm or cool, winter and summer, day and night. This has 4 time period controls, 7 day capability. +/- 3 degrees in all settings. I've trusted Honeywell for over 50 years. This one runs my major branded HVAC system just fine. A small note, put in the batteries BEFORE you install the face plate, an do the programming sitting down. Once the faceplate is installed, it runs on your HVAC wiring, and the batteries are for maintaining control during power interruptions.

Flexible programs, accurate, no external power needed, battery operated
PERFECT for an apartment or house that has an HVAC system with no "C" wire for voltage, so you have to use a battery operated thermostat. With 7-day programming, you can set each day of the week the same, or each day can have it's own schedule, unlike those that have "weekday-weekend" programs, where Mon-Fri are all the same, and Sat-Sun are the same. Furthermore, this stat is consistent within 1 degree of the temperature setting, unlike older thermostats with a 3-5-degree swing. Plus, there are dozens of options in setup, such as auto switch from heat to cool to heat as needed. IMPORTANT in places where cool nights and warm days call for heat during the night and early morning, but need cooling as the day heats up.

Easy Install & Quality Product
Extremely satisfied with this product and purchase! I received it early, installation was surprisingly easy (I am not very "handy" but had no problem doing it myself), and programming the schedule was simple. (Below, I included extra information about items received, tools required for installation, observations/comments)Received: thermostat, installation guide, screws/anchors, wire labels, operation manual and reference card.Install: you'll need a drill (to prepare the holes for the anchors), a Phillips head screwdriver (optional - just depends on preference for installing/tightening the screws), a leveler (they provide a spot to put it to ensure it is straight), a small slot head screwdriver (used when connecting the wires), and 2 AA batteries.Comments: even though the installation is pretty easy and simple, the installation guide does not explain or everything as clearly as it could have so that is the only thing I had any issues with

Excellent replacement and wonderful customer support from Honeywell!
This replaced a very old Weathertron thermostat hooked to a 17 year old Trane heat pump. The customer support was great! I emailed them prior to buying to help me with which model to choose and they got a picture of my current thermostat and wiring and then sent a list of compatible thermostats! I tried this same thing with another well-known company and all I got was confusion, miscommunication and wrong advice. Honeywell not only recommended a great thermostat but sent me detailed instructions via email on how to wire it and navigate the menu to make selections for my particular application. Has worked great and I highly recommend for a basic programmable thermostat.Installation was very easy. Make sure with any installation if a heat pump to turn off power to the blower unit as well as the actual heat pump. Else you'll probably blow a fuse in the blower which is were my thermostat was connected if you have a common 'C' wire.

Do Not Buy!!! 1990 Technology in Cheap Solo-Cup Plastic Housing
Really. This is quite poor from Honeywell-- 1990 touchscreen technology requiring you to read the fineprint in a manual to program multiple numbers to configure it to your system. Completely unintuitive. I'm an engineer who's designed multiple electronic systems from scratch, yet after 30 minutes of messing with the manual and touchscreen it still was not programmed. Worse still, is that this is made from very cheap polystyrene plastic, the same stuff that's used to make disposable Solo cups. Looks and feels cheap. Whole thing wobbles in it's base when touched. Spend a few more dollars and buy something that's worth keeping in your house for the 20+ year life of your heating/cooling system.

Good Thermostat after you turn off the Smart Response Technology
I've had this thermostat for two years and one feature that annoys me is the Smart Response Technology. I want the heat to lower to 63 at s specific time at night and go back up to 68 at a specific time in the morning. But with the smart response technology, the thermostat will turn on or off a full hour or hour and a half before the scheduled time. So typically the house will start to cool down such sooner that your specified time which means that if you are still up at that time you will be cold, and the heat will turn back on much sooner that you want which means that if you are still in bed you will get hot. After battling with this feature for two years, I re-read the installation manual and discovered that you can turn off the smart response technology. Now the thermostat turns on and off at the exact time that I have set it for.

Wish I bought one Sooner
Easy to install, instructions were pretty clear. Easy to program and touch screen works pretty well. This has paid for itself both in terms of dollars and in piece of mind and comfort. I like it cold at night when I sleep and not having to turn down the thermostat before I got to bed and having it warm up my apartment before I get out of bed is awesome. I especially like that you can do every day individually. I keep the temperature more comfortable on the weekends when I am home. When I leave for work and travel it's easy to put it on a temporary hold temperature that stays on till I get back which is very nice.If you still have a dumb thermostat, buy this programmable thermostats ASAP. Even if you live in apartment, buy it and just hold on to the thermostat that came with the apartment and swap it back out and take it with you when you move out.

Changing from Fahrenheit to Celsius.
I purchased the same Honeywell Thermostat 7 years ago and was very pleased with it, I found that the touch screen started not work on different functions and that's why I'm purchasing another one. With living in Canada and need to set the thermostat in Celsius. 7 years ago in the manual this was not mentioned and had to Google it to find out how to program it.Not sure why the thermostat comes in Fahrenheit seeing that it is manufactured in India and there are only 5 country's in the world that us Fahrenheit, the USA one of them and 4 small Islands. In the new updated manual you will find this on page 11.You need to press System & Fan, then press and hold Fan for 5 seconds, you will see numbers flashing. In the manual on page 11 you will see Function numbers in red 320 for F/C, keep scrolling through the numbers with the arrow keys till you come to 320 and enter 1 for Celsius. Press done.

Only displays Fahrenheit temperatures
Hard to believe that a thermostat sold in Canada cannot be switched over to indicate temperatures in Celsius! Kind of pathetic that Honeywell makes a thermostat that cannot display temperatures in Celsius especially given the vast majority of the world's population uses Celsius rather than Fahrenheit. Other than that, I like the multiple programming schedules and it was easy to install.

Great thermostat for many types of heating systems.
This thermostat is perfect for my electric baseboard heating system that has a thermostat on a transformer and uses a two wire system (had an old style mercury switch thermostat in place before).Once you figure out which of the two wires go where (in my case black wire to W and white wire to R) it all worked well. A little challenging to program the installers features but once you learn you’re good to go.No C wire needed as it runs on two AA batteries. It controls the heat perfectly and is simple enough for most people to use.Just the fact that it sets the heat back at night so I’m not spending money (electric heat is expensive) while I sleep.Recommended product.

Not bad. Could be better.
At sale pricing, this is probably not a bad value as far as thermostats go. Programmable / non-smart thermostat pricing seems insane to me, considering how simple these commodity devices are. (Smart thermostat pricing is even more insane, but that's another subject.). Overall I like the clean/minimalist look of the unit.I have to say I am a bit disappointed and surprised in the overall build quality of this item. The plastic casing is quite thin and flexes easily, and does not exactly impart the feeling of quality I would have expected. I suppose once you have it programmed, you won't be messing with it too much. But you do have to be careful when removing the item from the mounting bracket to ensure you are pulling from the right spot -- if you pull from the wrong place you can rip the front off the thermostat, exposing the innards (which I did accidentally). This seems easier to do at first as it takes quite a bit of force to remove it from the plate, combined with flexing from the flimsy build. One of the units (I purchased 7) has rebooted itself spontaneously a couple of times that I have noticed. The last time was when I was editing the schedule. All functionality otherwise appears fine though, and settings were retained. I see in some of the other reviews that others have seen this reboot issue as well. Interestingly, I have not noticed any reboots on the other units (6/7).From a usability point-of-view, I like the touch screen, and it covers the basic functionality I would expect. Fairly easy to use if you're familiar wth programmable thermostats at all. Two features I wish it had:1) "Full Manual mode" to set it without needing a schedule "override" and hold. You can override the schedule, but it will revert to the schedule at next interval. There doesn't seem to be a way to simply disable the schedule, short of turning the system mode to Off, but then you can't manually set the temp anyway.2) The ability to disable particular intervals when defining the schedule. I know Honeywell's T5 let's you do that, but not this one. You must explicitly set each interval, Wake, Leave, Home, Sleep, for each day. For days we're home it would be nice to be able to disable Leave & Home, and only need to set Wake and Sleep. Not a huge deal in the bigger picture.I would say 3.5 stars overall.

Does it work? YES!!
Liked everything about this programmable thermostat! It was easy to install, the manual was clear and easy to understand and it is still working!! This is the second programmable Honeywell I tried with our furnace, the first one only lasted a week before it packed in totally. The whole thing just quit! So, it went back to the store. Left it for a while and then saw this on Amazon, checked out the reviews and thought I'd give it a try. It still works and retains its programming through multiple power-outs that we have in our rural neighborhood. Yep, I'd definitely recommend it!!
