Q: Is the picture of Cthulhu or the flying spagetti monster? I need to know for religious reasons.

Neither. The picture is of octopus in the ocean because this coaster is one of the oceanic collection. It has nothing to do with religion or culture of any kind

Q: Are these coasters coated with a clear top coat?

Hi, there is no coating at the surface. In order to maintain the absorbent power of the coasters, please follow the cleaning instruction inside the product description. Cleaning can unclog the blocked porous structure at the surface of the coasters, which enable the coaster absorb moisture.

Q: There were no "cleaning instructions" included. How do you clean these to maintain absorbency?

I have never cleaned these other than with wet wipes with alchohol. I also never pay attention to how much water gets absorbed. That said, I have never had water pool and get off of these coasters, even with several hours of cold beverages on them.

Q: Just received my octopus set today and there is a card inside that says it comes with bumpers. there were no bumpers in the box. do i need them?

No. There's a cork material on the bottom. I have the same set but did not receive a card of any sort. I love mine!
