Easily one of the most useful purchases I've made for my puppy so far. The locking + leash in one device is super convenient and the lock is extremely secure. I’ve even been able to conveniently hook my pup up to a tree root while sitting under the tree to read. The only reason I did not rate 5 stars is because the retraction mechanism doesn't work as well as other leashes. There is a lag with the retraction mechanism and sometimes the length of the leash will stay slack for several seconds and I have to press and unpress retraction button to get it to work.Edit: less than a month since my review and the retraction has completely stopped working. I love this concept so much I’m going to order a replacement and try again. I’m really hoping they’re working on perfecting the hardware for this leash. Without retraction, it’s not worth $35.

I really really want to like this leash. I was looking for something that had a big enough handle for my hand to fit through so I can put my hands in my pockets when it's cold out. This is one of the only leashes I can find that works for that, and I like the clip feature on the handle. It is definately more bulky than I would like, but the real deal killer for me is how the brake mechanism is designed. All the other retractables I've had have the temporary brake nearest your thumb, and the brake lock farther from your thumb. I use the temporary brake often and rarely use the brake lock. The problem with this leash is the brake lock is in front of the temporary brake, and I am constantly locking the brake accidentally because it gets pushed while trying to hit the temporary brake. It's even worse with gloves on, when it ends up locking almost every time. So annoying to have to constantly unlock it. Also I found the retracting mechanism does not work well when it's cold out, although it works fine in warmer temps. I'm returning this item due to these issues and back on the hunt for my perfect leash.

I purchased 2 of these in the last few months as I really like the concept. However the first one broke the leash locking mechanism, which tho I dropped it I felt it was a bad design as a dog leash needs to be sturdier. However, I bought another and then this new one stopped retracting the leash. I took the 2 of them apart, which it is decidedly not made for doing that, and tried to make 1 good leash but ultimately failed as the retracting mechanism didn't survive the installation.

Looks like the retract challenge has been addressed. Super strong, no issues with retracting, able to easily control 2 french bulldogs - even if they shoot off after the tiniest movement. Best part is I can be out and just hook the Leash Lock to the table, chair, whatever is close. Hands-free dining/drinking again!!For anybody against retractable leashes, it can also lock at the distance you want. Really a great way to live life out and about while keeping the puppies near me. Highly recommend.

Great idea to be lockable except ignored portability.

I bought this leash for my Golden Retriever, and I love it! Hes a social critter so when we go out to the restaurants or outdoor patio bars he likes to pull and go greet everyone (people and dogs alike!) A quick slap of the locking handle around the arm of the chair or rail on the bar, pop the retracting leash button and he's secured!

My 53 lb dog broke the latch off when she was on a walk and saw another dog. This was the whole reason I purchased in the first place. The concept is great but it didn’t hold her back.… I wouldn’t trust it with a dog that pull and want to get away.

Great leash idea for active dog owners like myself!! Going to buy this for all of my dog family members!!
