A trustworthy alternative.
I bought one at a yard sale, and I guess I loaned (or someone took) it. This is the exact tool and it is a great alternative to all the electronic solutions. It works when I want it to, and stops when I don't.

Old school is still the best....
I remember my father had one of these when I was a kid and I used it all the time because it is so user friendly. Well, fast forward many years and I'm glad to say it still works as great as it did when I was a kid and look forward to many many more years !

Well made, just like the original!
My husband has been looking for a replacement of one of these he had years ago. He was very pleased I found one, identical to what he had. Well made and easy to use.

Well-built & stable like the originals - great for picture hanging
I used to work in a big local gallery, which involved quickly hanging and replacing rotating feature shows. For picture hanging like this, we used sturdy hand push drills- we'd quickly fingermark the position wanted for the wire, then take the push drill from your pocket and make the hole. No need to get out the power drill. No need for drilling experience. These push drills are very precise and controllable, and require no real elbow grease. It's almost impossible to make a mistake whether in dry wall for an anchor or in a wood stud. They don't have the capacity to get away from you, like a power drill might in inexperienced hands. The push drills need to be built in a way that everything is designed for stability - once you point it to your spot, you can ratchet a clean hole exactly where intended, at the intended angle. This requires well tooled solid bits that do not break, enough weight to allow it to do it's task without wobbling or vibration, a strong smooth ratchet mechanism, and easily accessible bit storage. I've always used one for simple hole drilling tasks but, to find them, I had to go to flea markets because newer replacements were too light, too weak, to poorly engineered. In shopping for the used ones, the more ancient the better. But they're scarce, so I decided to really search for a new one. This Kings County classic is as close as I have ever found to the ideal. I haven't used it long enough to know if the bits are as indestructible as those of the "ancients" which are still going strong 60+ years after manufacture, but it meets almost all of the other criteria (bit storage is less than straightforward) and so far seems just fine.

Still top quality.
No drop off in quality from Yankey to Kings for a handy tool.

Fell apart in short order
The second time I grabbed this tool to use it on a home electrical job, the ball bearing that holds your bit in place fell out. No way to contact the manufacturer building this piece of crap. It’s an expensive tool, and you would expect quality that would last a lifetime Like the originals. This is just a cheap offshore piece of junk.
