No index???????????????????? But who cares this book is a treat of visual stimulation. Fabulous chintz in clear detail. A great design source, for both colour and shape. Some of the pieces have very wide date estimates. For all it's faults I would still say this is a must have book on your shelf. It you are a quilter like me then team it with Chintz Quilts by Kay Triplett not available on UK Amazon as yet but available from the 'mother' site. Neither are pattern books but both get the creative juices flowing.

Dieser Katalog des Victoria und Albert Museum's London beschreibt in Text und Bild einen Ausschnitt der Bestände des Museums an sog. Kalamkari. Das sind Textilbilder, handgemalt oder z.T. im Blockdruck erzeugte Textilbilder in den Farben vorzugsweise Rot, Blau, Gelb und Grün. Die Unterlage ist ein leinenbindiges, dichtes Baumwollgewebe (Chintz). Die ausschließlich manuelle Herstellung ist vielseitig und kompliziert. Diese Kalamkari wurden schon vor vielen Jahrhunderten hergestellt, vorzugsweise an der Südostküste Indiens (Coromandelküste) im Staat Andhra Pradesh. Beliebt waren Kalamkari auch in Persien, wo die Herstellung auf das Gebiet um Isfahan konzentriert war. Das Buch mit Hardcover ist exzellent gemacht, sehr schöne Abbildungen, auch Vergrößerungen. Die Textbeschreibung ist klar und informativ. Beste gegenwärtige Publikation zum Thema.

I am thrilled with this book, as the photos are in great detail. I ordered it after reading a review highlighting its use for embroidery design and that is exactly what I will use it for - as well as making a stunning coffee table book. If you love fabric and chintz or love to create your own embroidery, this is the book for you!
