Pimsleur Croatian Conversational Course - Level 1 Lessons 1-16 CD: Learn to Speak and Understand Croatian with Pimsleur Language Programs (1)

I used all three volumes of Pimsleurs Brazilian Portuguese several years ago... and learned Portuguese well enough that Brazilians were impressed! (That, after trying Berlitz, Rosetta, etc... to no avail). So, with an upcoming trip to Croatia I thought I'd try Pimsleurs Croatian... and, exactly as the Brazilian lessons, it proceeds in a logical and well-paced way. AND, much to my delight, I am learning to speak Croatian at a very basic level! I love it and cannot wait to visit Croatia and NOT have to constantly ask, "do you speak English!" You DO have to put in the time. I do much of my studying in the car... during a 30 minute commute works perfectly. Because the language is more difficult than other Romance languages, I'm finding it necessary to do each lesson twice. But, it is an effective and fun way to learn the language, and that's all that matters to me. I highly recommend the Pimsleur method. It WORKS!

I am currently on Lesson 6. I love the fact that it takes only a half hour a day. I listen to it on my work. It's also great that each lesson builds on the lesson before it. You never have to worry about not remembering something, because they do repeat it several lessons later but in different ways. I just hope when I get finished with all the discs, there is another program that follows. I have relatives in Croatia, so I need to say more that just a tourist.

I actually really enjoyed the Pimsleur method, which is far more interactive and effective than I expected based on the language on tape programs I tried 10+ years ago. My only reservation is that it requires a very alert mind. When I was even a bit sleepy and tried to take a lesson, the pace was too great and it barely stuck at all. The main problem I had with this program is the vocabulary it teaches. While there may have been some underlying logic to the order in which it taught things, I would have preferred to know how to say "Bathroom" or "Store" or "Can I?" before knowing how to ask a woman "Would you like to have something to drink at my place?" Maybe I'm a little slow on the draw, but I feel like I should have basic navigation down before I try to romance a lady who doesn't speak English.

I had the original lesson CD's that just give you lessons 1-8. I got it from the library. I liked it so much that I decided to buy my own and found this one on Amazon that had twice as many lessons. It's a great learning tool. It teaches at a pace that is easy to follow and of course you can go back over any lesson several times before you move on since you're learning at your own pace!

I give Pimsleur points for doing Croatian (which is the only way you will get Serbian), but like a lot of Pimsleur courses, this dwells way, way too long on useless chit-chat. Nobody needs to know how to say they know the [target] language. They need to be able to say: hello, nice to meet you, how are you doing?, goodbye, where is, thank you, and some other very basic things WITHIN THE FIRST FOUR LESSONS. What you never need to know how to say is "I speak Croatian" (maybe you do about 50 lessons in) or to have a conversation that sounds like picking people up at a bar (Pimsleur Brazilian Portuguese is the worst for this, including such questions as "do you have any money?") This missed prioritization makes these courses absolutely useless unless you can pound your way through all 8 hours of lessons before going on your trip.

This is the second best to the best language program I've ever used. It really does have you speaking and understanding extremely fast. I used Rosetta Stone to learn French and I liked that you got to see the words and type them as it taught you to read as well as speak. But this program is just as good at teaching you to speak and understand at a fraction of the cost. If you are willing to forgo reading and writing until a later point in your learning, this program is definitely worth it.

The CDs were my constant companion for weeks prior to my trip to the Dalmatian coast. From Dubrovnik to Split and into Slovenia I was more comfortable with hearing the language and was able to help get some simple instructions stated and understood. The program teaches the words in reverse order. Strange at first, but it really worked for me. My pronunciation was not as a native, but passable enough to be understood. Great country to visit...

I'm impressed with the Pimsleur concept. Repetition makes learning even the most difficult language easy. My daughter is dating a wonderful young man from Croatia. She wanted to surprise him by learning some of his language. As with all the Pimsleur, "proper" language is taught, so it's a little different from that spoken by "native" Croatians, but he did understand her. I've used Pimsleur before and this one didn't disappoint.

Super App zum Lernen während langer Autofahrt oder auch sonst während zB Haushalt machen. Es wird oft wiederholt und man kommt sehr gut mit... Empfehlenswert! Was ich allerdings vermisse, ist das Booklet, von dem sie immer reden und es angeblich online zu kaufen gibt? Ich hab dorthin geschrieben - leider ohne Antwort!

For this product 1. The shipping was fast. 2. Its one big box of nothing meaning only a small bag with the cd's in it. 3. Does give you a code for the discount to use on there website . 4. Easy to learn with(basic). I recommend this product as a beginner level until you want to go further.

For me, Pimsler is more than an excellent method to learn a language : the progress and understanding is amazing... It’s really great.
