Great aid for my aging back and shoulders
Easy install on my 2014 Tacoma. The tailgate damper bracket would not fit flush against the hinge because the hinge screw under the bracket is not flush with the hinge. So I cut a piece off of the edge of the screw with my Dremel. I bought one aftermarket APA tailgate cable to use with the Pro Glide. It is more flexible and has smaller diameter crimped lug ends than the factory cables. It fits better in the limited space when the tailgate is closed. This tailgate damper now works as designed.

Installed on 2013 Tacoma, But ...
Update 2: Out of curiosity I left this false-advertised piece of junk on my truck to see if it would self heal... Naw. In one spot the jacket is now gone and the steel wire stranding is beginning to fray. If you do not read anything in this review, read this: this does not work of Toyota Gen 2 2012 -2015. There is no cable clearance. The cable has no good place to go. It will bind or it will pop out between the gate and panel, it will squeeze into places narrower than the cable diameter. If you own this type of Toyota, you will sorely regret purchasing this after going through the effort of install.Update: Contacted the seller, who asked for proof of purchase and a picture of the defects to resolve the issue. I complied. Crickets for a week. Contacted the seller again and they told me they were submitting it to whoever is in charge of doing the replacements. Crickets. Though it will not show, I am taking away the one star plus a bunch more so as to (at least by verbal intention) drive this into negative territory.Original: It is on and operating ... after a fashion. However, my disappointment in this product, after successfully completing a series of nice modifications on the truck, is painful. From the start:1. There were instruction in the package and they are straight forward. There were also instructions in the package that had absolutely nothing to do with the product. What? Not a good start.2. The bottle of thread lock was half empty with thread lock all over the outside of the bottle.Assembly:1. The E clips were the wrong size. Way too small. There was no way they were going into the groves (without shattering) since the diameter of the part grooves was significantly larger than the ID of the E clip. An unplanned trip to Auto Zone to get the right size.2. You will need a #40 torx bit. Do not try to remove the torx on the gate with anything else. This was put in to stay put. I finally found one I had.Fitment:1. No, this definitely does not fit out of the bag on this model Tacoma and I suspect all 2012 - 2015. The plug supplied for the cable top cable connection is necessary for operation. The hole you plug it into is there for a reason however and not just for removing the tailgate cable. It provides some wiggle and slack which you lose.2. The cable will go to the left or right of the cylinder (as you look at it). To the right is a non-starter. Immediate bind. No way on this model will the cable bend up on the centerline of the cylinder. The only option is to the left. However, to insure it goes left, the bottom cable clamp needs to be bent out slightly.3. When the cable goes to the left, because it is so stiff, it has a tendency to pop out between the gate and rear quarter. It takes a lot of tweaking with a combination of training the cable with pliers and getting the correct angle on the bottom cable clamp to get a high percentage of successful closures.4. The whole assembly will add about 1/8" to the gap at the left tailgate side. Not really noticeable at 10' but I know it's there.Function:1. Mine was hyper wimpy. Really bad. It made the right noise, but barely anti-slam.2. Until the cable gets some bend sets, there will be times I need to keep aligning it with a push in before latching the tailgate. From sloppy packaging process and wrong size parts, to a Gen 1 part being sold as a fitment for Gen 2, to a product that did not have the strength to keep the gate from making a slamming noise, this was undoubtedly the worst aftermarket purchase I have made for my Tacoma.

easy to install, but beware the factory cable support!
The media could not be loaded. really, really love this purchase. when i learned that these things even existed, i was all about it; that tailgate slam is really annoying, and i really messed up my last tailgate on my previous truck because it slammed too hard once.not sure how other people's 2nd gen tacomas were built, but there was no way both the OEM tailgate support cable and the Strongarm would fit once the tailgate was closed without risking damage to the Strongarm. i used some extra 7-strand steel cable i had laying around, some ferrules (two on each end for added strength) and about 30min. after a quick google search, i learned that the tensile strength for 7-strand steel cable is approx. 2000lbs. there's something seriously wrong if i'm putting a FRACTION of that kind of weight on my tailgate, so i'm not too concerned about this cable breaking.the hardest part was finding a ferrule crimper tool. luckily the city tool library had one on hand so i could borrow instead of buying new for just this one-time project.

Big improvement
This products does work as designed very nice. But requires some fitment. I had a problem removing the one existing countersunk screw from the driver side of the tailgate. It all started when the head of the screw got stripped out when trying to remove it in order to mount the new bracket. I don’t think that screw was ever intended to be removed to the teeth it has on the counter sink side that bites into metal when screwed down flush. I had to cut notches in the screw head to relieve the compression tension then hit the notch in counter clockwise direction and the screw came right out. Another thing, when everything is put together and you close the tailgate you’ll probably encounter some binding. I had to Bend the cable end that connects to the bed side to slight 45 degrees (not fully) helps the cable from move away from the snubber on closing the tailgate. This product is a huge improvement and would recommend this to anyone that gets tired of hearing that tailgate drop sound

Works great, easy to install if you have a 40 Torx.
Great price.

3 stars for reasons
Ok so this is a nice product. It is well made, simple install, and clear instructions. I followed the instructions to a ‘t’ and it was no more than the 15 minutes claimed on the packaging. So 5 stars…But it doesn’t fit a 2012 tacoma 5 lug as claimed. I suffered the same issue many others have, the tailgate cable has nowhere to go after install. I am confused why this is marketed as fitting for the truck. It’s fine, we have been spoiled with soft open/close products anyway. Just thought i could get in on some of that plush-soft-open-tailgate action but it is what it is. So 0 stars for fitment.Your experience may vary but it was a hard no-go for me. I am not going to fabricate a new cable to make this work as it sort of defeats the product. Although you may want to do that and it may work great for you.I returned the strongarm in like new condition with even the threadlocker unused. So someone else can enjoy the product and hopefully it works for them. Hard pass for me, see pictures for how the cable fits when partially closed.(5+0)/2=2.5 stars…rounded up to 3 stars. It is a nice product but it didn’t work for me.
