Dorman 42550 Rear Windshield Wiper Arm Compatible with Select Chevrolet / GMC / Oldsmobile Models

I was wary ordering this product due to the other review, but it was my only option since even the chevy dealer does not have this part available. A customer came into my shop and complained that the rear wiper on their vehicle had a bad motor. What had actually happened was that the wiper was frozen to the rear window, and when they attempted to turn on the wiper, the soft metal where the motor connects with the arm stripped out. It seems they do this to avoid burning up the motor, but it is much more of a pain to find a replacement arm. As the other review stated, the replacement does not have splines in the place where the arm attached. And the tube is through the hole in the arm. However, this does not present a problem to a knowledgeable mechanic. There are not supposed to be splines, the arm is meant to press fit onto the motor shaft to provide a more exact fit. As for the hose, you just cut off the fitting on the end and use the one already on the vehicle. The install was quick and straightforward, and the customer was very happy with the how cheap the fix was. Also it is interesting to note that most parts catalogs did not list this part for the vehicle year we were working on (1997 Chevy blazer), but it was an exact replacement.

Item works as a replacement for my 03 Blazer rear wiper. Not as good of quality as the OEM since it does not have a metal insert where it bolts to the wiper motor (it is a plastic press-on fit only). I can see it going bad in a year or two but for now does the job. When it craps out I will try to take the springs off and attach to the OE arm that it replaced, just didn't have time to rebuild it before.

If I could give negative stars, then I would.When the package arrived someone had taken the hose that squirts fluid and placed it through he attachment hole and then pushed on the piece that attaches to the car so the only way to get those out was to cut off the plastic piece. I'm sure the worker who did that thought it would be a great joke. It wasn't.The drive shaft has splines, the hole that is cut in the arm DID NOT have matching grooves. It appeared that the only way to get this piece to fit was to force the piece on and then hope that you could install it straight and plan on the splines cutting matching grooves as you tightened it in place. I did not try it just in case that method failed and I ruined the drive shaft attached to the motor.This is a total piece of junk and waste of money. I will never buy something with the Dorman name on it.I was not able to get too attempt to install this until a couple months after I bought it so now I have an expensive reminder to not buy any thing from them again!
